Had a bad day, packed up and headed to George Rays Birthday Bash and my F...Holley decided to go into flood mode, pulled in a gas station and seen my front bowls was flooded , bought some ice for my cooler, wrench and screw driver inland and backed front bowl lowered, stated and all the sudden the rear was doing it, lowered it, , remember it's hitting 10 am and near 90 degrees, ok, not flooding, I crept it back home with diskus!
Order a new gas tank and sending unit, needed it anyway.. checked fuel filter, not bad but still gathering crude, i have driven 500 miles and just used two gas filters.. ok, that's just my day..
Would rather have a carter style, I have this one and would like to use it, what kit ? I see some with different needle and seats, just like to have some insite from a good carb tec. Help so I can get it ordered along with a new tank and sending unit..
Oops 360 headers, high energy cam and an air gap dual blane intake..
Opinions please.
I can take it. Lol.

I have a sonic cleaner and solvent from tractor supply for sonic soaking

That is a good one. 1971 Low Performance 440 automatic transmission, and it is probably jetted about right. Clean it, put a kit in it, adapt an Edelbrock electric choke kit to it, and run it. Adjust the secondary air valve till it slightly bogs then tighten it a skosh and enjoy carb free drama.

Your going from a Holley what model ?

To a Carter 630 CFM

Anyways

Walker 15502 is a simple kit for the Carter AVS

Leather acc pump

Double check over the brass floats and float settings and drop are very important

You will like that # carter.

That is our preferred # for 68 to 70 340
stockers.

It should not need any modifications or jet changes
for your application.

From a 670 cfm Holley Avenger, much taller and absolutely heavier, yep cleaning my hands of any Holley carburetors in my position, dual line feeds are a temperament and costly, take up way to much room.
So you suggest a Walker 15502 rebuild kit ?
I want to thank you for your time and input @bee1971

Thank you very much, that is what I have heard and wasn't sure if it was an actual hp or lp for a 440 back in 69 to 71, hopefully like you say, a drama free carburetor, back in my early days AVS was my go to and always sold my Holley carbs to friends

Thank you @GTX JOHN , I appreciate you knowledge and input as I keep driving Victoria.

Agree, a good AVS.......because it has accessible mixture screws. Some did not...
True, I picked this up from a older fellow that had it on his 383 69 satellite, and as always another friendly gear head hot rodder I had the pleasure to meet, thank you @Bewy

My 273 ate the 650 AVS up, but it was a commando motor.
A good mix and delivery of fuel for a good build, 273 commando even though smaller bore with most likely 3.23 gear ? I could see that. I am running 2.98 gears, no fast 1/4 passes for this 66 , but some decent hwy hp is what I am after, a no effort job to push a 66 sedan .

Ok then, again thank you all here for some very fine and helpful input.
Looks like I need to order a kit from Walker number 15502 kit ? I will be happy to remove this 670 Avenger Holley, to tall and heavy as the hills.

The Holley is not taller than a Carter/Edel AVS. At the air cleaner neck, they are all 5" diam & 3 1/8" tall.

I prefer that kit or really any with Leather Accelerator
pump when you can find then anymore.
Agree, ordered it yesterday and thank you again

hmm, ok. I need to double check my tape measure and or my glasses, could have sworn AVS Carter was 3/8th inch shorter, I know for sure much lighter. Check that today

71 H.P. Auto. 71's were still high compression. My 71 R/T originally was a 4967, 4 speed car. Also, one tip put a small non heat conducting spacer on it. Bolted right to the manifold Holley's will boil and on any carb. it will reduce a lot of heat. My temp. gun told me so.

Juz sayin, but flooding is not a carb problem. Too much pressure, junk in the fuel, or maybe misadjusted float level. Bad/ sunk float which can happen to any carb, anytime.

Mechanical pump, old gas tank and line I have been using 500 miles, keeping a new filter, no problems, I do agree, and ordered a new tank and larger fuel line and new sending unit, 66 model tank, totally agree.

Say there Mr. GTX John what cfm are these carb's.
This particular Carb was only on the lower HP 440s in 71.
It flows around 625/630 CFM as delivered. It has the smaller 7/16
primaries like the 68 to 70 340 AVS carb unlike most other 440 AVS carbs
with 11/16 primaries.

With some booster changes and other sneaky machine work to carb Gurus can get them
to 710 to 720 CFM.

My .02 = for Free
