Replacing timing cover on 1965 273. When installing the short replacement gaskets from the block to the rubber oil pan end seal, do you cut the gasket even with the seal or let the gasket overlap the top of the seal?

I don’t use those cork pieces. I just trim the old pan gasket flush with the front of the block, and run an even bead of ultra black on the exposed pan rail instead. Those cork pieces get any silicone on them and they will likely squish out when tightening and are too piecemeal anyway IMO
