dose anyone know what the stock rated torque converter was for a 72 demon with a 340 904 trans. I ask this cause my dad put a stock tc in years ago when we rebuilt the tans,

ill be doing a swap in this car to a 42rh and need a TC for it once I do the swap. dose anyone know the stale I should get. I don't even know what cam it has its not stock.. this car was build by someone else before I got it to do some racing. I have a guy telling me a 2800 stale will work for me.

I'm told the stock TC is 2400 but that seams high to me. the TC we have now gives us issues with kickdown and I'm thinking its to low of stale

Looking through my converter catalog, I don't see a listing for a 904 transmission and the 340 engine. 318"s and 360's yes, but the only listing I see for the 340 is with the 727 and the stall was around 2200-2400 rpm.
Without any information on your engine/car weight/axle ratio/tire size etc. no one can give you any good information as to what stall you need. Get all this information first, and then contact one of the good converter builders and see what they recommend.
My 1971 340 Duster new from the factory had the 727 transmission. My buddies 72 340 duster also has a 727 transmission . My 74 Challenger that I own, has a 360 engine and the 727 trans.

Yep, 340's came with a 727 only. So there wouldn't have been a "stock" stall for that set up.

2200-2400 sounds about right for a stock 340 converter.

Lots of people live in the 80's when it comes to converters. The newer high stall units are sometimes more efficient than a lower stall old/shelf unit. A custom converter is a good choice if you want a strong runner.

well I figure when we do our swap ill take the motor out and take the cam out.. then I can get a good idea for the stall that's needed. its not to know that they came with a 727 and the tc was right in the range I was told. do you see an issue with using a 42rh and not a 46rh.

just keep in mind the cam is only part of the equation
gearing, tires, weight, intended use all play a part in what torque converter is perfect for you
