Torqueflite 727 Transmission fluid - any suggestions???

Anyone have a suggestion on the brand and/or type of transmission fuild to put in a Torqueflite 727 Automatic transmission? How about quantity? We're going to fire up the car for the first time this weekend and both the engine and transmisssion are brand new.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Went to Pepboys and they told me Type F was only for Ford transmissions. I got 10 quarts of DEXMERC. Will that be OK?

It's been a lot of years since I studied automatics in tech school. As I recall the type F is a 'grabbier' fluid than the others. You could put it in a Chrysler or GM transmission and they would usually shift a little crisper. My instructor had told us that B&M's Trick Shift fluid was basically type F with a blue dye. He believed though that using a type F would cause some premature wear in a non-Ford and that a lot of people would not like the harsher upshifts. He said it was sometimes a great way to get some more miles out of a transmission that was already slipping. According to him used car dealers would add it to hide transmission problems. We used to use it all the time in our torqueflites. But I always wanted really firm shifts.

I use type f with 1 qt of engine oil mixed in.

Read that tip in Chrysler Power Magazine years ago.

It was from a guy named Marv Booth who ran torqueflite Specialities in Cali. a noted race trans shop.

Used the 1 qt oil trick in all my vehicles since then , all brands and years.

Never had a tranny I did this to go out while I had the vehicle either

He said the oil was for lubricant as the trans fluid doesn't lubricate well

i am using john deere hy hard 10w30.
well i have a904 trans but that works ;)
