For those of you that own trailers and especially fellow members that reside in NY, you may want to look in to registering in Maine. Registered mine for $99.00/5yr registration. Beats the hell out of $75.00 for one year in NY. There is a $20.00 shipping charge ( I think that includes the cost of the plate ) for the initial registration. Go to " mainetrailerregistrations.com " . It will save you some serious money.

Just did my car trailer this month. My Maine tag arrived Wednesday. Did it there for the same reason.....cost.

Usually did a 'utility' trailer registration until I saw what the repercussions were if I got into a wreck. Did that for probably 30 years....and cops never stopped me.

Just another way of the State to get money out of you. Seems like the money they're collecting isn't going to fixing up the roadways. Not in my area of Pa. anyway.

my poor trailer ,used the crap out of it in the spring and summer
it sat all winter
my helper finally did the brakes and drums last week ....he goes to use it and it broke an axle....rusted ...damn i picked up a tractor in upstate ny glad it didn't happen up there
don't you need an address in maine to reg it

I thought they closed the Maine loophole" for cars.

Is it not closed for trailers yet?

Nope. Sent mine in during the last week of March, a week later, FedEx delivered the plate and registration card. Simple painless process.

No, you do not.

Me too. This sounds illegal. Especially if you have to get it insured in your state and you have to tell the insurance company where your Maine plated trailer is housed....

I know that it differs by state, but what are those "repercussions"?
How specific of "trailer type" are they? do they have to know if CAR trailer, BOAT trailer, EQUIPMENT trailer, ENCLOSED trailer or camper?
if not a camper basically who cares?
