I bought a new one from Napa. It has a NAPA sticker on the box. I realize that means nothing.

Besides the 'long' ears being tacked 'un-square' to the mount tube, the rubber is just sitting in the oblong metal piece. OEM mounts have that rubber BONDED to the tube. I can move the mount ferrule/tube and rubber isolator in the tube a bit by hand, easily with a 10" lever.

That seems bogus to me.

Isn't the rubber supposed to be bonded to the tube it sits in? A friction-fit isn't right, isn't good...right?

I've seen mounts from various sellers...I have no idea the extent to which the various parts are sourced similarly...or completely different. I have seen NEW mounts in which the rubber looked worse than my 55-year old OEM part...but it was bonded to the tube it sat in.

What is the general consensus? New stuff is all crap, so deal with it? The one I got from NAPA is faulty?

Buy a poly unit? I have one of those in now. No thanks. I don't like IT at all. Way too and unnecessarily HARD...which is not necessary. I'm not taming 700lb/ft of tweak. A good OEM mount will do just fine.

I don't think that's what I got.

Pioneer used to have a mount that looked good. I have not found one of them available. I understand parts not being what they used to be, but the current mounts available seem to be completely useless for their intended application.

Here is the new mount I recently put in the '89 D100 Pickup, with a 904 trans.

Good dude here. Small business need support.

The NAPA store owner ordered a second mount, it came in today. At first glance: It must be different 'cuz it's in a different looking box!

Yup. A completely different animal. The rubber was fully molded around the ferrule. The first one was missing a bit around the edges. The flanges are straight to the oblong rubberized piece. The rubber does not flop around in the tube like it's loose.

It's a keeper.

Poly mounts? No thanks. Don't care for 'em. Yes, I have used them.
