I know I'm a novice at this and trannys look so complicated in a diagram. When I check the fluid in the car, I see it looks full. But when we check in neutral, there is barely enough showing on the dipstick. Do I add fluid with the car in neutral or in park with the motor running?

So add fluid in neutral means the converter is filling up at that point right?

The pump isn't working when in park. That's why it needs to be checked in neutral. The fluid goes into the pan and is circulated from there.

Just always check it in neutral and add to the full mark.

Yup, like what bad said you have to check when warm while in neutral.

Vali68 if you look closely on the dipstick you'll see stamped "check and fill in neutral" or something to that effect. You'll find nearly all trans. dipsticks from every manufacturer have instructions stamped on the dipstick.

in neutral running, add and check again until it shows full.
