I always install weatherstrips the same way. For the last 30 years with no deviation. Well, I didn't have clothes pins at work so I thought I could use tape to hold it in place until it dried. I ran my finger over the back to take some of the glue off, but when i removed the tape it still ruined the gasket....witness installation number 2.

I don't know what tape you used but I have been taping them off for paint for years. I never had this problem. Or maybe the new weather strips are junk. Or maybe the tape I am using is as old as me.

Things like this are never a start for a good day. Order a new weather strip and go watch some TV.

Actually the tape isn't even that strong, but was on the rubber. I removed that one and this is the second new one...held on with clothes pins.
