I noticed that

1 my SBM was cobbled together, belt pulleys don’t line up.

2. taking off the alternator, fan, water pump, and crankshaft pulley & comparing them to other pulleys, water pumps, even power steering pumps don’t all extend forward the same distance from the engine.

3. while trying to mix match paddy wack parts, I was not easily coming up with a matching V belt pulley line up.

340, power steering, alternator, water pump, and crankshaft pulley. (No A/C), I developed a growing leak from my water pump and bolts that extend into the water jacket-I was trying to resolve that problem when I realized the other. I have thrown belts before when I stomped on the gas-years ago.

I went thru that too.
But, I have pullers, lol.
I got the crank and waterpump matched and made everything else fit.
Happy to report that engine is no longer throwing belts since yr 2000 even as shifted regularly at 7000.

Tried stock with stock

March performance parts together

mixing and matching those together

then I realized some of the water pumps extend forward different amounts.

between that realization and trying to adjust the power steering pump, Last night we felt we got real close.

If your alternator has a double pulley. you'll nd a single. Make sure you do not put to long of a bolt holding the power steering bracket to the block. Second one up . just a tad to long and you will crack the cylinder and you get water in the oil. here are some pictures that may help. your last picture in the first post the water pump pulley all the way to the right is correct one. I don't see a correct factory crank pulley.

I can’t recall; does the 340 as listed with what you have use a 2 or 3 belt setup. If a 2 belt, PM me, I might have what you need

Sorry I missed your call, but this is what I would have asked for.....pictures. lol

John, you need to NAIL DOWN a year, make and model for front accessories, otherwise you're gonna keep pulling your hair out by the roots. Once you decide that, I think we can help. There are many different pulleys brackets for many different years and models.

I do have only two belts, as pictured. I would buy one from you but:

This is an upgrade I plan on doing as well. I have unknown pulleys on mine that I've gathered thru the years so far they haven't given me any trouble but the alternator didn't line up properly I had to shim the bracket to move it forward about a quarter of an inch and I have like a 3 groove water pump pulley and it looks terrible. Where did you get your pulleys from? I've been looking at getting the CVF kit

I have OEM pulleys for aluminum pump or cast iron pump. You need to use the water pump for the power steering pump you are using . There is only two styles for non AC power steering pulleys. 69 and earlier cast iron water pump or 70 and later aluminum water pump. The power steering pump and mounts are different for both styles

If I'm not mistaken it just looks like you're missing the correct crank pulley which is a 2 Groove you have a single Groove water pump I see in the top-right of one of those pictures and you have the PS pump in another picture mounted which looks like in the correct position but you have a bunch of AC crank pulleys know that you can use a dual pulley or single pulley with a regular 2 Groove crank power steering pulley set up

Pulleys from AC and non-AC cars can also be different (even within the same year), as can brackets and spacers.

I think it was March Pullies from eBay over a decade ago. The aftermarket crankshaft pulleys are noticeably smaller than stock crankshaft pulleys which might underdrive the water pump...

On a side note, a guy posted that he was having trouble & they looked inline, he ended up useing a laser pointer layed in a pulley groove to get em dead on aligned

had some issues with mine popping belts off, typically in the water box.
It didn't look like an alignment issue, but it was. Once everything was lined up perfectly, no more issues

I like having the power steering and water pump on the same belt, so I know when it breaks or throws. I've always found the alternator is easier to move forward/back.

Also, Hughes sells spacers for the water pump pulley mount. I've even had one of those aluminum fan spacers machined down to make it thinner. I have also used a 5 foot long wooden dowel to help me see misalignment in the pulleys. I surprised me how much that trick helped.
