Morning fellas,
Question:
I am wanting to change my 1-3/4 Headman b body headers to TTI.
Their site is somewhat difficult to navigate in one spot it says need engine plate next down it says works with Shumacher mounts.
So I have: 400 block Abody stock small block K member, mini starter, Schumacher conversion mounts small block to big block, torsion bars, flaming river conversion shaft power to manual, manual brakes, stock master cylinder, stealth heads.
Does anyone gave some practical insight on the 2-1/8 step header fitment? I seems like it's just 1-3/4 or 2-1/8. I dynoed through 1-3/4 headers and got 643hp and 645 ftlbs but they hit everywhere I've beaten the **** out of them to fit, and would like to go bigger as I think I am choking it down already. So my only real option is the 2-1/8.
Thank you all in advance for any advice you may have.

my hands on practical isn't apples to apples, but i've dealt with and installed a lot of TTI stuff so that being said: if they say it'll fit, it'll fit and you won't have to beat the **** out of anything.

i have the smaller 1 3/4 headers on my 68 dart with a 73 K, schumacher conversion mounts and a borgeson set up. everything clears by a country mile except for the passenger side t-bar. it's super close, but not touching-- but i'm also running 1.12 bars.

Kinda a no brainer, ain't it?
I think so too, but if he wants to be sure just call.

When I look at their website it seems pretty clear to me that his choices are #6 or #7 under B motor headers dependant on which heads he has….

I agree 100% though, that when dealing with a purchase this big, it's best to call. Just pretend like it's 1975.

Phone tti
I'm currently working in the middle of nowhere for the next 6 weeks or so by the time i get phone service everything is closed. my phone service is nil. Text and email goes through eventually just figured I'd ask for some real world experience rather than just a salesman. Thanks for the help anyone who has something to offer.

My real world experience on several sets of headers I’ve ordered from tti is that they fit. I’ve done B, A body figments both big and small block.
Just order as per your application. Your choice depends on what heads have. Read their sub. Toes which are accurate.
Any time someone on here has posted that they had fitment issues was usually because they didn’t have their motor in the correct factory position. All of this info is on their site which I don’t find overly hard to navigate. Take your time look at all the options and info and I’m sure you will order the right ones.

My interpretation of the descriptions are:
With the 2-2 1/8 headers, the “SR” is the correct choice for a low deck with std port heads, and in an a body you need to use a motor plate, and no head studs on the outer row of the head bolt locations under 3/5/7.

It’s spelled out pretty clearly.

This is exactly where the confusion comes in you say motor plate but if you look at the photo I attached is the motor plate only if using victor procomp or stage 6 as per the red asterisks?

2-1/8 is a great fitting header in an a-body.
I have them, I set my engine in with Schumacher swap mounts and set up the engine plate with the headers on, I also run a super stock milodon pan, which is one they don't list as a fit, but it does.
Clears the steering, clears the torsion bars.
Hope this helps, you should pick up some power as well.
I don't have an apples to apples comparison but 2 inch fenderwell headers (long tubes) were 26 HP less than the tti 2-1/8.

Correct, although head studs just need a trim just to the bottom of the Allen hex

Just do what the instructions say. If you call them and ask for info you’ll likely speak to the owner or another knowledgeable person

I tried the 2 inch stepped headers on my Duster and they were so big that took up all the room. Technically they fit, but the took up so much space that maintenance was basically impossible. I sold the big headers and used 1 3/4 TTi. My application was a hot street car. It would run 10's in street legal trim and could be driven to the track. I bigger headers didn't make anymore power on my car since I had to choke it down with a full exhaust system anyway.

What coolant puke tank is that?

I have the 2" in my Duster and they fit but had to clearance the header for pass side torsion bar(bigger than stock) and the pass side inner fender.
I would have been fine with 1 7/8 for my street car but for some reason they don't work per Tti site.

Yes, the lady I spoke to a few years ago was very very helpful.

I don't remember. I just searched for a coolant tank that would fit and eventually found something. Some late model econo car. Here is a closer view.

I have them on a b motor. They do fit nicely but there’s not much room left. I called Tti and ordered directly , very nice people.

It appears that’s correct.
Motor plate only needed for those 3 heads.
