Ok guys I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on ordering tti headers. I'm tired of low hanging crappy headers the hedmen ones I have are toast and I'm not going down that road again. The car is 71 dart with a 360 j-heads that have been max hogged out and 2.02 intake valves in them. Power steering, manual brakes 904 with a floor shifter. I plan on building a radical 408 for the future so ordering these headers I don't want to have to change later. Should I go with the step headers or go with the 1 7/8" race headers? And how does the finish of the nickle chrome plated ones hold up? I want shiny headers :)
    thanks

the nickle plate will turn bluish after awhile....

as far as size....good question.....i have the 1 7/8 headers on our 71 Dart 410 cu inches...but it is not driven on the street.
if it is a street car I would be more inclined to use the smaller stepped headers......
you can always call and ask them...

I have 1-7/8 coated headers on my 440 in my scamp and they were around 800 bucks (for the internal and external heat coatings)BUT the fit and finish are superb, I installed them on the engine and then installed the engine from the bottom so I am not sure about installing them with the engine in the car. I would say from my experience that with the limited space of a big block in an a body tti is the only way to go if you can swing the price.

Another couple of items to pass along I would go with remflex exhaust gaskets both at the head and the collector, I am not exactly sure what they are made from its almost like compressed carbon and there not to happy to be bent but they are wonderful at conforming to both your header flanges and engine head. i should also say at to the fitment of tti headers I am using an aftermarket front suspension system on my scamp but the headers are made to fit the stock k frame so with the aftermarket kit there is lots of room.

When I called tti to order shortys the man said backordered and why shortys? I said A-body hello!
He said long tubes will fit right in. They did and ground clearance is excellent.

I did get the step headers, nickel plated and they will change color.

TTI ceramic coated step headers here on my 408. A little pricey ($324 NEW at a swap meet!!!) but worth every penny. Been on two years now and all I've had to do is snug the bolts up a couple of times. NO change in color.

My nickel-plated lasted 4 winters, then rusted thru on the topside of the merges. If you buy nickel, you might want to do something preventative up there.

You do know those go in from the bottom and you need to jack the engine. They will slide right in that way

Put the new ones in today passenger side was a breeze. Drivers side that is another story. Looks like slip tube is hitting the steering column ring for the shifter may just grind down the ring since I have a floor shifter now. I have to say these things fit awesome.

I have put two sets of the 1 7/8 headers on A bodies.....one had the number 7 slip tube and was a small challenge on the driver side....the second set went on yesterday and because the car did not have torsion bars tti suggested the E body version which has no 7 tube welds...Big Pain in ASS,,,,had to drill no 7 bolt holes to next larger size....otherwise they would go on....even took them off and try to put them on an another engine on a engine stand....

Had problems getting around the steering column...since the column was gutted I took it out to make it easier...

Haven't driven it yet, but super close! I've read nothing but good things so I figured I'd give it a shot. It has to be better than the factory box.

Wouldn't it be nice if TTI would include slip connectors so that you wouldn't have to take 1/2 the car apart to install ? Just thinking .
