what would be needed for a 2x4 tunnel ram motor ??

cam ?
compression ?

What kinda car you got? How much does it weigh? Auto or straight shift? Gear? Street or race? We caint just wave a magic wand and give you a combo without some pertinent info from you first.

72 Scamp, street and strip, factory V8 car, building car around motor since car is stock,
904 auto trans, all stock.... to be built after motor is done, dependent on engine needs.
disk brakes up front, lrg bolt pattern
manual steering box
has 7.25 rear............. looking at a Dana60 with 4.10s
to be mini tubbed and caged
looking to be around 3200 lbs with me in it

im not sure i want to go this route, but just an option id like info on though it looks like the rpms are much higher than i may want.

The Edelbrock street tunnel ram will be the best one. It's much more forgiving on the street. The RHS heads right now are probably the best bet. Get compression around 10-10.5 with a good quench piston with a camshaft of no more then 250 degrees duration @.050" In fact, I would consider 250 the absulute max. Gonna be easy to overcam with a tunnel ram. Comp's 274S solid flat tappet would be a good choice. As for carbs, two 390 vacuum secondary would be hell on the street. But if you're up to goin with enough converter and gear, you could go with 600s tuned right.

340 8BBL has a very streetable tunnel ram set up. If he doesn't see this thread and post, you might want to PM him and see what all he has on his.

eddy street ram, 390 holleys, custom schneider cam 284/234@50 470 lift 112 lsa.10:1 comp.despite how everyone told me it would run like crap and that"it was strictly a high rpm set-up"it has great street manners and is very responsive down low.strokerscamp basically hit the nail on the head.

cool, are you running an auto... stall ?

Lemmie tell you sumthin......if you got the right bottom end....with that Eddy street tunnel ram, you can run a STOCK converter and make it run nice on the street......so that just means the benefits of any kinda stall will be ten fold. As long as you stick with that street tunnel ram and watch the carb sizes, the rest will kinda fall into place. Just don't cheap out on one of them weiand's or somethin similar. They are not bad tunnel rams....but they are not designed for the street. The Eddy is.

exactly.....and im running a 2200 stall to answer your question.

well, bottom is is fairly stock, besides milodon main studs and ARP rod bolts. both -.010
there is an eddy on here for sale, but with twin 600s ! im eyeballing it and hope to make an offer here shortly, just not sure on the 600s unless i sell them and go with 450 or
390s.

youll need some stall to run the 450s they are mech. secondary with no secondary pump,it will bog without enough stall/gear .

still considering ram and pair of 390s or 450s, im guessing it may work better at the strip with 450s... 3000 stall and 4.10s.... any thoughts.

seeing as the 600s on top would be a strip only set up with a real high stall im guessin.

With the 3K stall and 4.10s you should be able to tune the 600s to run nice. I think they would work better than the 450s because the 600s are vacuum carbs. Engine would only make them open as much as it needs. I had two 600s on a tunnel ram on a 289 in a Pinto about 28 years ago. Worked real good.

i ended up getting the eddy street ram from a member in the classifieds, cant wait to see it !!

--now just need to find some 450s

Good for you. You'll like it. Those are DAMN good intakes. Still think you'd be happier with 390s, but go for it man. It'll be cool.

DO NOT GET THE 450'S! You will be sorry. No accelerator pump and mechanical secondaries on a tunnel ram and it will always stumble. The 600's are a much better choice, or even better some tunnel ram specific carbs like the Holley 660 center squirters or any of the Demon tunnel ram carbs.

I ran the 390's on an eddy street ram for 7000 miles without a hitch...

get your knowledge before spending bucks this is a great site for trial and error i hope you lock it down because it makes one hell of a sexy motor but then again that just may be my likes
