I went to Advanced Auto because their website said they stocked Valvoline VR1
Racing oil (with zinc) I wanted the 10/30 because of the tight oil clearances my 273 has when I built it. The young man said that Advanced is going to discontinue carrying the 10/30 Synthetic and he had it marked down from nearly $10 a quart to $4.95 but he only had 3 quarts. He checked online and found 13 quarts at a nearby store so I bought it all. Now I have oil for 3 more years. If you run this you may need to stock up. The 20/50 was at a reduced price too but I don't believe it was $4.95.Did I mention it has zinc? LOL

when did they stop putting the zinc in ? some one gave some oil thats been sitting in a garage ,i think from 2002.

Boy I haven't heard. That info might be on the net if you dig deep enough. I'll poke around and see if I can find out.

I prefer Royal Purple. But advanced oil is good.

I bought Valvoline. I use NAPA oil in my other vehicles. It is from Ashland Oil which is where Valvoline comes from. I don't know where Advanced Auto house oil is refined. tmm

I'm an Amsoil Z-Rod guy. I use 20W50 and it is the zinc oil. I get it wholesale for just under $8 a quart. I never liked the color of the Valvoline. It always looked dirty.

Just bought 5 quarts of the 10w-30 VR-1 Synthetic Racing oil on closeout for $3.49 a quart. Had to go to two different O'Reilly stores to get it.

I got home after reading this thread and my buddy Ernie at O'Reilly's had left a message on my machine that I needed to get down and buy the Valvoline. I went down today and bought three cases of Valvoline VR1 synthetic 20w50 and two cases of 10w30, all for $3.49 a quart. My brother needs the 10w30, but I have more 20w50 than I need, and I really prefer Amsoil anyway. If anyone wants some, let me know. I am in North Branch, MN. We can meet personally or I will be at Mopars in the Park and can deliver it there. I'm not looking to profit - I'll sell it for what I have into it.

2004,on the money Tool man. Used Kendall GT-1 40 wt,in my Rat. Early 2004,ConocoPhillips,bought Kendall oil. Two months later, the green tint, went away. (The high zinc ,original Kendall formula.

There are so many different oils and formulas on the market and things are constantly changing making it difficult to keep up with what has what in it. Basically you need to find the latest published specs/ads or just see what's on the label to be sure of what you're getting.

As Mopar to ya mentioned, one can be set up to get Amsoil at wholesale pricing. They have a pretty good selection of high zinc oils to choose from.
