I want a mechanic i can call that will fix something once and right. Not multiple times. As in an honest mechanic. Someone who fixes it right and doesnt charge garage prices. Also you need to be able to provide an environment to work in. Like a shop. Or garage. Im extremely loyal when i find a mechanic i like. My last one passed on unfortunately. Currently i have a whole mess of little issues to sort out on the car. Nothing to major. Not much custom.

Or a friend of a friend. These kind of relationships do happen. It's just that these kind of guys are pretty damned independent. All of my work is referral and sometimes turn into pretty good relationships. Hell, I don't even have business cards. That's how independent I am. :)

What part of the state are you from? I'm down in Windham county. There is a local shop owner here that charges very reasonable rates and does good work...

70's Mopar, easy to work on ! If your gonna drive a classic Mopar, you may want to get a manual and some tools. It's never to late to learn. save you some bucks and have fun while doing it. to me, that's the best part of owning something 40 -50 years old, working on it.

I let someone work on my Mopar twice. Once at the lineup shop and that was a good friend from high school and once when I had my windshield put in. I've broken windows before and I just wasn't going to pay for it twice or three times or good Lord knows how many... I just had it done.

What is the shop i will check the distance

Everyone else, i have been working on cars a while. My back is shot. Hence my need for a mechanic. I know how to do EVERY task on this vehicle, but i do not have the tools, space, or ability, to accomplish my repairs myself. I agree with popcorn guy.

Thats as far as ive got. Bending over the fender kills. Couldnt muster the strength for the cylinder bolts. Exhuast manifold is off now.

Just a thought, but any neighborhood kids that might be interested in learning how to repair cars, and you can be there instructor for the head swap? Or maybe a college kid on winter break? I'm sure that there must be a kid local, as native Vermont kids must have mechanical aptitude, with all the farms and snowmobiles around. Just trying to think outside of the box for you.

Did think of that.... Not enough strength or wit. Not a single one is mechanically inclined enough. And no teens here unless you mean cretins that think gangs are cool. My half inch impact is the biggun from walmart. Weighs a ton.

I'd offer to help, but I don't have enough time to work on my own these days. You say you want to swap out the smog head, is there anything wrong with the head/gasket/compression? If it were me, this being my only vehicle, and if nothing was really wrong with the existing head then I would put the rockers back on, adjust the valve lash and get it back on the road. There are simpler ways to get around the smog system if you really want to bypass/disconnect it.

One of the valves was messed up. So i bought the whole head to start fresh. And there is no valve adjustment on 1974 318. And my egr and smog is disabled as i already stated.

Swapped the head out now coolant is coming from what appears to be a magic extra hole under the coil....
