McGuire? I was there from 1986 to 2007. Civil engineering squadron.

Yep. McGuire. Great place. We loved NJ. I was in the maint. squadron.
I was stationed at McGuire 89-90 as a at the 21st AF Command Center. I volunteered for a one year remote tour to Panama to get out of there. We liked that area of NJ, but the job sucked.

Nice, too bad we missed each other there. I got to rebuild the three star’s suite in that building in the mid 1990’s. It really turned out nice but the three star wanted a window in his office so bad he could taste it. We told him that the walls were 3 feet thick and impossible to put in a window. Besides, the building is on the historical register as a Cold War relic. It was built to be the BOMARC command center.

How was Panama? I hear that a lot of vets retire down there. Is it nice enough to do that?

I REALLY liked Panama. I was down there for 3 months one time in 1983 and a whole year in 1991. There were lots of retired Americans down there. It was quite modern in places and not so much in others. A retired American with a decent retirement income could live like a King down there. Lots of people speak English down there, but I would still learn Spanish. My Spanish was pretty good back then, but I have forgotten a lot of it.

I'm putting together a memorial for my dad who was stationed in New Guinea during WWII and was captured by headhunters.

Hard to know where the man served.... My dad earned his CIB while in the Army during WWII, then served in Korea still as Army, but got out of the Army for a couple years than enlisted in the Air Force where he stayed through the end of Vietnam...

This Tech Sergeant was an Infantryman in the 28th Infantry Division which saw a lot of combat in the European Theatre. As mentioned he earned a Combat Infantryman's Badge and was also wounded, he has the Purple Heart ribbon

I was in U.S. Army active duty from 1997-2000, Independent Ready Reserves from 2000-2005, U.S. Army Regular Reserve from 2007-2009 (12B Combat Engineer). It was fun, alot of good memories, alot of great friends, and alot of stories. I think every young American male should join for a couple years, then we won't have worms as adults in this country.

I'm a disabled army combat veteran living in Phoenix, az started in 1989 got out in 1998 been to middle east for desert shirld/desert storm from late August 1990 to June 1991, then again in 1996 and 1997, been to Germany, ft. Bragg, ft. Bliss, ft Campbell, ft jackson mos was 63b but I also worked as a 52d, 63s as well

I'm a mentally disabled combat veteran at a 0% VA Disability. Spent too much time in Iraq, Baghdad for a year 2003-4, Talafar and Ramadi 2006-07. Served with the 1BDE 1AD. Both deployments were over a year. My mos was a 13D but I primarily worked as a 13F forward observer.

Well hang in there man, I did an Iraq tour in 2007 with an A-10 Squadron. Unfortunately we leave pieces of ouselves behind in those places that's what many don't understand about vets.
Sadly a lot of times I find myself missing being there. The camaraderie, having a mission daily, sense of purpose. One thing I don't do is dwell, I just stay busy. I appreciate the nice comments. Thank you for your service the A-10 are sweet.

USAF 67-87, Wish I had stayed for 30. I would go back in a heart beat and be able to pick up right where I left off. When I retired in 87, I just changed clothes, planes and hangars. I'm soon to be 78 and still at it.

Yes I look back also I'd be retired if I'd stayed in for 20. The deployment rate I was at was just getting to me. I signed up for 3 years. Was in Iraq nearly 2.5 years got held over year and half passed my 3.

It took a little time for CIB to make sense to me. I was USAF 77-81. Missile Maintenance, a really big stick. I miss the structure the most. Saddest part is a good friend I worked with over 10 years was in the ME. Kuch, 82nd Airborne. Passed away last year from a bad heart.
