Just thought I’d let anyone that may be interested in on something I found in the eBay archives. Found in a search for NOS & Military surplus head gaskets.
They have a 4.00 inch bore and look to be no more than .037 thick. A good option for someone who is looking for gaskets that won’t kill your compression.

There are also some of the Steel shim Mopar big block gaskets and thin steel core 340 Victor Reinz head gaskets, too. Very possible to come across small block steel shim head gaskets there.

Those field jacket liners are awesome. sleeves are a little short to wear it as is but we used to wear them under our long sleeve camy shirts and were toasty warm when we could not wear our field jackets. Marines stress uniformity, Its everyone wears a field jacket or no one does....The issue "wooley pullies" wool sweaters were great too, warm even when wet. $27 is a little steep though.

Pre compressed thickness measures out to .047 and the average bore size is 4.02.

They look familiar

It's become an uphill battle to find thin gaskets that can be used as a standard service replacement (60 RA deck finish) for a 318 that don't have over a 4.1 inch bore. Sure, there are some MLS options from Mr. Gasket and SCE that are Viton coated and don't require an ultra smooth finish, but good luck finding any. There has been a large volume of MilSurp and NOS Chrysler/Mopar gaskets through different vendors on eBay lately, though. Thought it was worth sharing. These should be good for over 10:1 with iron heads and premium head bolts or studs.

Read up. There's a lot of threads here about 273/teen head gaskets. Poke around for more information. I have a pair of 273 steel shim gaskets from a member here so I could measure bore size and thickness. If I can post that info I wil post it here.

Source for 273 Head Gaskets??

All Kinds of these Mr Gasket 1121G head gaskets for the 318s on ebay.

Smaller Bore and .028 compressed.

I’ve recently used a Mopar Performance gasket that I believe is the Mr. Gasket pictured, just in Mopar packaging. It took a retorque to stop the coolant seepage, but still going strong on a heavy duty 360. I really like the fire rings on these NOS gaskets though. I’ve got a set of LA 318 4 barrel/360 iron heads that have been milled enough that the largest chamber diameter is around 3.98. I’m going to give these a whirl to see how they do in a 10.5:1 application.

Correct again! These are superseded by a later part number that are essentially the same gasket. It shows up as a dodge M880 (1977-1980) 318/360 head gasket.

Those are not steel head gaskets. They are composition style. They are no different than say some of the Fel Pros or Mr Gasket stuff in terms of gasket thickness or material. They might be different as for bore size, which a lot of people would probably be interested in because those smaller bore gaskets are kinda hard to find. Maybe somebody should get with Cometic and see if they'd make a run of them. I bet they might.

Looks like the head gaskets you would see on van 318/360 from 80's.
I see the small bore size though as an advantage for the 318 and 273 guys. You cannot find them with that small a bore size now. Smallest I see off the shelf is like a 4.040 and that's an almost 100 buck a piece Cometic.

Thanks Rusty! Yes, not a true steel MLS gasket but a graphite or asbestos core gasket (1968 manufacture date) with a stainless steel combination fire and sealing ring.
