Are there any paints out there that does a good job at replicating a vinyl top or gives a "look" of a vinyl top?

Pretty hard to replicate boar grain. Perhaps there is a vinyl wrap with some sort of grain now. The other option is textured paint which has been used.

In 1968 my Dad had the dealer spray on a textured roof on his new Coronet ! Kinda like bed liner nowadays.

My old 65 Dart had some kind of rough textured paint on it. It looked and felt like vinyl. It was like undercoating. That was back in the late 60's. You could get a painted top on many models as well.

why not just paint the roof whatever color. painted roof was an option instead of vinyl
My 67 Dart had a white painted roof. "The white hat special days" We (the dealership) painted many during that campaign.
It was like undercoating.
Back then 3M made something called "Body Shultz" Much like today's bed liner spray. It didn't have a dull finish and looked pretty good. Last time I checked 3M still makes it and a spray applicator too.

You can get Rhino line any color you want nowadays. Properly prepared and shot with that, it'd last forever.
