Water in oil pan

-
im not sure if you got your focus right
sure, they werent meant to run fine with diluted oil
but you got water coming in

so, look at that first
figure out what caused it and then you can see what the rest need
(i dont think a few miles on diluted oil would kill the bearings, but chances are you get to inspect it anyway while fixing the leak)

Water in the oil is never good. Can you elaborate some? Is this a running car? Sat up a while? Give us some more info.

This is what water does to an engine and it's bearings, the last pic is all that remains of one of the connecting rod bearings.

check head gaskets with a cylinder leakdown test and look for bubbles in the rad. most likely a head gasket. Youll have to visually check the bearings to see how much damage has been done if any.

What will happen to crank and rod bearings if you find water in your oil pan
That is easy. Nothing. Simply finding water in the oil pan will not damage your bearings. On the other hand, if you have water in the oil pan and run the engine, that would probably damage the bearings.

Tough crowd tonight. Kim
It is, isn't it.

Some mechanical fuel pumps can fail in a way to fill the crankcase with gasoline. That would wash away bearings also.
