Small block water pump question: What are the specific years of water pump for drivers side vs. passenger side inlet?

Are all front covers the same, or are they year specific as well??

Thanks!

69 and earlier used the cast iron pump with the driver's side exit. 70-up used the aluminum pump with the passenger side exit. Earlier timing chain covers varied as some used a bolt on timing chain marker and other the timing marks were built in. I think that cutoff (more or less was about 67/68. I think 70 up timing chain covers were all pretty much the same.

64-69 cast iron, driver side hose.
70-up passenger side and aluminum. Longer snout.
64-67 timing cover has bolt on timing tab.
68-69 cast in marks
70-up, cast marks on the opposite side

Good stuff! I already have a new timing cover with the cast in timing tab, but wondered if it could be used with any year pump. However, I didn't realize that the 69 and back pump was cast iron. I'll stick with 70 and up. THANK YOU!

If you put a '70-up water pump on a '69-down front cover, you are going to have a hell of a time seeing the timing marks.

OK ... old post, new question on this subject.
Any small block, drivers side water pumps with the 1 3/4 inlet?
