We I made thru the Saturday rounds of
eliminations in the 318 wagon racing cars that
are 50 MPH faster. It is akin to catching a bullet
in your teeth judging the finish line margin.
At least I made it to the Final rounds on Sunday and
I believe the very final round will be televised. Last round
we had the longest burndown staging that I have ever seen
in 60 years of racing in Superstock. I am surprised that we were both
not thrown out. My opponent in a new COPO Camaro just did not come
to stage and when I saw that I just pulled up short of Prestage and
shut my engine off until he finally approached staging. I was holding
about 2 hundred on the tree.
He dial in 9.61 to my 318 Aspen 318 Wagons 12.36. He ran 9.608 breaking
by a razor thin .002 or about an inch or two at 140MPH.
A COPO Camaro is a $200,000 investment by the time it is purchased and
prepared to race (Some guys claim $250,000+). It shifts itself has traction
control and the fuel injection self corrects to keep ET consistent. Our Thermoquad
and 904 cannot help us with any of those items.
Our Aspen Wagon Turnkey as raced was $7,500!
But we race cars and not Checkbooks at these Tracks.
I face my good friend Mike Cotton in His Big Block Cuda on Sunday
and the little 318 is really battling to run the index in this heat
(Nearly 100 in the Shade Yesterday)! He will be the Odds on
favorite by a real bunch!
Stay Tuned tomorrow!
God is so very Good to this Elder Guy.
