How much lighter would an LA small block be if you swapped out for all the lighter parts you can? Aluminum heads, intake manifold, water pump, headers, etc.?

The timing caved and water pump in the later models are aluminum already.
The heads are approx. A 50lbs. savings. The intake is approx. a 25lbs. savings. Headers are a catch 22 since your adding twice the pipe and adding another muffler.
Exhaust manifolds are not really so heavy to begin with.

If you get an 80lbs. savings, that is about the best you can do unless your engine is an older mod. Further weight reductions can be found with light weight Alt. & P/S brackets, open air cleaner. But this is pushing the envolope.

Cool deal! I'd like to shave as much weight as possible without getting crazy.

Depending on the body you are running there can be alot of weight saved in bumpers and bumper shocks or brackets....

Absoulty! In example, when you get a fiberglass bumper, deleate the steel reinforcement behind it. Aluminum or fiberglass bumper brackets, head light buckets etc....

let's not forget the all important redistribution of weight, battery in the back?

Don't forget the weight savings of modern wheels and aluminum pistons. Aluminum rad will save so weight.
