In looking on the internet and also this forum, there seems to be differing opinions about weld through primer. I live in the mountains, where weld through primer is not available in stores, and there are no auto-body supply shops around here either that might sell it. I could buy it online, but hate to put the project off a week while waiting for it to arrive in the mail. So my question is, couldn't I just regular prime paint the inside surface of the AMD rocker halves (inner rocker and outer rocker), grind the black AMD paint off the contact locations to bare metal to be welded, and weld them together? Or is the weld through primer necessary on both welded surfaces that contact each other?

Amazon is still online but they are the fastest and usually cheapest source.

I have the same problem with local availability being a problem but I order mine through Amazon and they do a great job of getting stuff here quick

I would use the weld through primer on any welded point that you won't have access to coat with regular primer later. It's good to have a coat within the weld area too.

Agree with your recommendation,
Used the exact primer on my Jeep Cherokee project.
I just checked, I bought on amazon in 2023 for $24 a can and again in 2024 for $16 a can.
That's a good price right now.

You're right. I just ordered it. If you pay extra, it comes earlier. Hopefully it will be here before the weekend like the tracking says. Thanks for the info.

Imo weld through primer sucks, unless it has zinc, toxic, or copper.
If it doesn't, take a small drill bit to the spotweld hole to expose some metal so it will arc.
