The virus thing has pretty much destroyed my onsite computer service business as most all my customers are older people that just need a little help with something simple to handle like no internet or how to do what they want to do.
Been doing this kind of stuff for over 20 years after being much deeper into hardware repairs, website maintenance and networks before that.

Before that I was a stick and auto trans builder and ASE certified rear wheel, front wheel and 4x4 “bumper to bumper” as it is referred to.
Now I pretty much only work on what I want, and with the auto experience I have there seems no shortage of people that just need a little help with their project cars.

In the next day or two I am going on one of these jobs.
There will be no shortage of cash available but the poor owner knows next to nothing about his car.
I have done a little carb work on this car to help a friend who was helping this same guy before, but my friend moved out of state and left it to me to help the guy.
This stuff is exactly what I want to do now and am working on getting the word out locally.
I live in a retirement type town and there are a crapload of classics in this area with no good shops with classic experience.
Fortunately I can pick and choose the stuff I want to get involved in.

The current job is a running driving 1965 GTO 4 speed Tri power.
The guy needs his steering wheel replaced, spring loaded license plate gas door installed, factory radio installed and a few other minor issues.
He also wants me to take him out for a “see what it can do” drive.
    He’ll ya I’m all in.:D

If he doesn’t mind I’ll try and get some pics and video.

GOOD FOR YOU !! could be really relaxing, if you draw the right people too :)
I used to do mechanical work for a local body shop for extra side money. It wasn't the best arrangement for me.. too many lost parts and wrong parts purchased. I had to walk away..

This is exactly what I've been doing for about four years now steady...
We got a little crazy with the 65 GTO 4 speed but it's coming along. Definitely the deepest I've ever been in to a car.. IMG_20191031_115446.jpg
        IMG_20200304_125256.jpg IMG_20200615_110225.jpg
was supposed to work the last few days and definitely today but we canceled again because of the smoke outside..
It can be a lot of fun as you get to work on all makes models and different situations... And the very best of all you can pick who do you work for and what you work on...

I definitely don't advertise anybody work and only help people I don't do it for them. This negates any liability... when we got into this GTO project and he said what he wanted to do I was very adamant about I'm paying me to learn because I don't do this kind of work and definitely when it came down to doing any Bondo or patching work I had nothing to do with it....

I can handle about anything on a car, it’s pretty much always been the people that sucked:D
I can pick and choose now.

I put one small ad on Craigslist and that's it. I don't keep reposting it I don't have multiples or anyting... I actually work for probably 1 out of 15 callers at tops. 90% don't even read my ad they just see Mobile mechanic not mobile restoration mechanic not mobile and they just see what I charge and think that they're going to drop their car off at my house and have it totally restored for a ridiculous price... they don't read my ad see that I work on nostalgic cars they all want to drop their brand new car off and have all kinds of work done for them LOL... The one in 15 caller that actually reads my ad and gets the concept that I help them and a lot of my pay is their enthusiasm for working and learning about their car...

THere seems to be quite a large group of people that just bought the car and will pay to have someone work on it. They had that particular car in high school and now they can afford to buy a nice driver and have that 3 stall garage in their new house. Go for it. No shortage of work here for the shops that work on the older ones.

The great part is that one caller that really gets what my ad is saying. They really want to work on there car and learn about it. Once in a great while I'll get someone to admit the real truth. They're not afraid to take it apart they're just afraid that it won't be back running again when they try and put it back together. But I'm there to say we got this...

That sure as hell describes me, except that I dove in with both feet taking things apart, cleaning, fixing, replacing, etc.....the trouble is that was 20+ years ago. I took lots of photos and have lots of manuals, and of course there is always FABO for help. But, holy crap!!! I've go parts that are bound to go somewhere; I'm just not sure yet where they go:realcrazy:. I am undaunted though. The biggest fear is getting a bunch of stuff re-assembled and installed, only to figure out that I should have done something else way before. Now I have to disassemble and start over.
It really helps my process to develop a process, so to speak. Take it by system...steering, suspension, trans, engine, body, etc. and get things ready to re-assemble. Then, make a list of what to do...scratch 'em off the board in order.
