    I have a 70 dart and i would like to add a 70-71 factory air cleaner on the 340, but i am mot sure which aftermarket intakes will work. Any ideas?

    Currently has a 750 holley and weiand intake. Not sure if the factory air cleaner will work or not.

    Your post is clear as Mud.

    what exactly are you asking? you want to know if a factory style air cleaner will still work if you swap intake manifolds? as in height clearance to the hood?

    No doubt!

    That’s what *I Think* he means to ask. LMAO!

    A factory intake! For sure!

    Most aftermarket intakes are taller than stock. IF, someone here can reply to what theyou have actuall done, your in biz. Or alert us to how much clearance is there with a factory 4bbl. set up.

    Let me clear the mud...laughs!

    I have an aftermarket weiand on there now and the moroso drop base air cleaner fits under the hood. But i would rather know if the factory air cleaner will work before i dent a hard to find/buy air cleaner.

      Also keep in mind the aftermarket carburetors may have different diameters the factory air cleaner.

        I am working on this at the moment. That vintage '70-'71 air cleaner the OP mentioned uses the Fram 305 air filter which is 2 3/4" tall. A similar option is the Fram 170 (two used on 8bbl '62-'64 Max Wedge) which is only 2 1/8" tall. The difference is 5/8", which may be enough in some case to prevent air cleaner/hood contact.

        Personally, i am trying to use the '68-'69 340 unsilenced air cleaner on a '72 Satellite 318 factory two-barrel (with adapter). The 305 filter was going to raise it too tall, with the 170 the '68-'69 lid is just kissing the hood pad.

        As mentioned carb makes a difference too. I made an alum spacer that fits like a glove. Eddy 1405 LD4B and 67 commando air cleaner.
        Aluminum adapter is only approx 1 1/2" high I believe.
        I can get measurements in a few days if need be??

        Wake up!

        The air cleaner he wants to use is a 70-71 factory 4 bbl. unit. It has the typical & current 4bbl neck size. 5-1/4.

        @dibbons A shorter filter in that air cleaner doesn’t help anything in his case. Do you know what the 70-71 air cleaner housing looks like? In your case, the Un—silenced air cleaner it can provide clearance but also binders breathing.

        @Cuda Al

        He said he “Currently has a Holly” 5-1/4 diameter air cleaner size, same as a 70-71 4bbl. OE air cleaner.

        Tell me which after market 4bbl. carb has an odd size that will not allow the OE air cleaners useage?

        @4spdragtop

        You must have an early OE Carter with the smaller neck size or a modern carb with the smaller air cleaner opening for the earlier carbs.

        @JoeDragster

        I don’t know if this helps but ......

        I’m running a Mancini drop base air cleaner base with the MP black wrinkle ribbed lid on the wires ‘67 Cuda. Stock hood. Air filter height I can get if you want to know. (Car is in paint currently. 10 miles away. No problem.)

        Summit racing had the filter I needed. It took a few minutes going through the selection process in there left hand side bar. Knowing how much filter height you need to start is a huge help.

        I might, just might, have a part number for this air filter. But I don’t know if this is good for you.

          Ede performer, Ede rpm, Weiand stealth all should work without any problems.

          I’m going to check and see how thick the spacer is beneath the Holley. With the factory air cleaner being larger, I may need to pick up some modeling clay and see how much room I have withe current setup

          A lot of knowledge in this group.
          Thx for the responses. If anyone else has a piece of info, bring it on

          Don't let the spacer be a deciding factor. Half the time people put spacers on their cars and they don't do diddly s***. Half the time they actually lose performance with them. Unless your car has been on a Dyno, or has quarter mile time slips to prove the spacer has helped there's really no reason for it. A 1/4" heat insulator is all you should need.

          That is close to what Ian seeing underneath the carb. I haven’t had the car long and I don’t know much about the engine. It was owned by a Chevy guy who got in a trade. Otherwise, it have cost more.
