I have not toughed a car in a couple weeks! Wow it felt good to this 74 year old fart, to get under the Bel and add rear end oil. I just hope it does not leak at the tapered axles seals. By the way, the wife got the neighbors bucket tractor and got my old ass right UP!!!!!!!!! Always feels got to accomplish something. Now we know why the city chit gangs are what they are!
It would be a much better fit to my car... But would ruin the originality some. I mean really, that engine would look REAL nice in a '70 EV2 car!
Wait till I get my spare front end done. And we can consider a package deal. Just started on the new one this week. The first one came out nice.
Planning that by tomorrow night these 3 things are all met up and enjoying each other! Oh yes, there's a torq converter that will also sneak in there. Nothing wild, just my low mileage Demon 340. Moatly stock rebuild of everything. Want to get it done so the wife can take her pick of which one to drive to some cruises...this one or the avatar. She'll take one and I'll take the other. BTW...we shall see what tomorrow brings as we all know Mr Murphy lives at my house.
Cruise-in at O'Reilly yesterday evening. After half an hour or so, naturally a rain cloud came and sat right over us. Just a couple of big splatting rain drops - but then a loud bright lightning strike a mile away. I took the hint and went back home!
My new heads are still in the box (after some massaging by PRH) for a year now... I was supposed to put them on this winter, but life got in the way ;) They will work much better than the ported 516's that are on there now - but I hate to take apart a working engine...
So... the "judges" at the car show spent 10 minutes on the 74 roadrunner next to me, but didn't even look at my car! They passed me and everyone else in my row to look at a 68 charger. Maybe im biased a little, but to compare my car to a 74 roadrunner is silly. He got a top 30 out of 60 cars. All I got was rained on because the organizers ignored the weather radar.
The Duster is resting comfortable in the garage. The Daytona has had an ongoing clear coat failure, so sanding and more sanding.
Swapped the modified stock distributor amd GM HEI module to an MSD pro billet black and wires. Then took the car to a nearby town for a pizza with my boy. I have to get rid if the Auto Meter oil psi gauge in the center of the cluster. It is not hooked up.
Thx to all! Well, it worked...they all went together and I'm happy with the results so far. Still a lot of work to do - cooling system, trans cooler lines, new wiring harnesses to install, accy drive, etc, etc. But so far, so good!! First time I've had the engine back in it since I took it apart in 1993!
Yesterday I dropped the engine and transmission, first time doing it from underneath. I think I much prefer this method.
The Demon has had a shake while driving about 60 since changing the hubs last summer after wheel bearing failures. Different tires and rims didn't fix the issue. So I spent the time putting in new bearings and races into the old hubs. Hopefully it will fix the issue. Looks like some weather coming in, test ride may have to wait.
Enjoyed my first outing, with the new engine, hanging out at the Packard Proving Grounds hosting the North Oakland Mopar Muscle car club's car show & swap meet. Meet up at O'Reilly's to roll into the show together Weird to have the hood up on my car. Still need to get the underside of the hood refinished/painted (it is rough). Maybe next year's profit sharing check will cover it.
