It’s about 2.5 inches square what is the purpose? Is it just to find the north or South Pole of a magnet and is it worth anything ?

Used to use one to check for residual magnetism in screws around the "whiskey compass" on general aviation aircraft. Small amounts of magnetism on the screws can throw the compass out of whack. Commercial aviation a lot of the screws near the "whisky compass" are brass. No issue with residual magnetism.

Isn't that the root cause of a "false erection", had a female AE in the Nav, loved to say that !
