What to do with this 340...?

I picked this 340 up from a member here (@Demonracer). Assembled the bottom end, then took it to the shop class at the high school in town for them to finish it up. Well, school is OUT and I went and picked it up -- now where should it live?

Current candidates in the stable:
1) 1987 D150 Long Bed with a tired 318/998/8.25 peg leg 3.55 gear combo. I would need to change the pan and finagle the motor mounts -- but pretty straight forward replacement.
2) 1972 more door dart (AVATAR PIC) that currently has a slightly warmed over, but fresh slant/904/8.25 Sure Grip 3.21. This car has sub frame connectors and disc brakes, etc

If there is any interest, I would like to hear opinions/reasons to jump one way or the other OR even don't do any of that and find something better suggestions.

340 is mildly built with the stock style pistons and a Melling off the shelf cam -- info in pic below

I agree. Will run like a 1972_73 340.
Perfect for the MoreDoor. Add some cold A/C and a Sure Grip. Even my 1972 Challenger 340/727 323 with dealer installed A/C was quick. Yes many cars were faster but in 1979 it was quick and chicks digged the cold A/C. Got it from a friend who got it in 1978

Only thing they did was bolt the heads/timing cover on and paint it...shop teacher is a big time gear head. Fingers crossed...but I will check the head bolt and rocker shaft torque, at least.

Certainly not trying to make you nervous but I’m glad you’re being cautious. I’ve loaned a few engines to schools, the Boy Scouts, etc. as teaching aids. And (no fault of anyones) they always come back hacked together. I would seriously consider checking everything.

Here's another vote for this. The slant and 833OD in my 82 D150 is a hoot to drive.

You were right: oil pump was finger tight, rocker shafts reversed, rocker arms out of order.
