My dad is a lifelong mopar guy. He had a 69 dart when he was 18, and when I was 18 we got one for me. He now has a 73 340 'Cuda.

Father's day is coming up, and he's turning 60 a few days after. Any ideas on what I should get him? I'd love to set him up with a 4 or 5-speed swap for his E body, but that sort of $$$ is probably out of the question (he more than deserves it). Trying to stay under a few hundred bucks.

    Anyways, throw me some ideas!

^He's not a member on here. He's not much for the internet, haha. Only uses it when he needs to.

I should probably also mention that he's not a drinker, so not really any interest in anything alcohol related.

Don't know what area you are in, but I came accross a great gift idea today that I would actually really like! There is an old school metal forging business in my area (near Ann Arbor) that offers a 2 hour course in metal forging, and the cost is only $50! It's a hands on course where you learn all aspects of old school metal forging, and I was told by the owner/instructor that it is not uncommon for a session to go 4 hours or more to complete the "project" that you get to pick, make, and keep!! This sounds like heaps of fun!!!

Just an idea that's off the regular birthday map, but sounds cool as heck! If you're in my area, message and I'll hook you up with the info!!

That actually sounds really cool, but we're in Northeast MO. Awesome idea!

It's fairly complete, all I can really think of is manual trans stuff. Maybe some nice heads, but I don't know that he really wants to tear into the motor anytime soon.

He'd probably like some 15" Cragar S/S wheels if they had wide tires on 'em.

They were set up at the Art in the Park in my town, working on stuff right there! Their skill is amazing, and their work is as well! Nicest guys, and it looked fun as heck to heat, bend, twist and shape red hot metal into shapes and really cool items! The owner was making a fence gate, with vining leaves and stuff climbing the gate, all handmade!! I wanna do this bad, and will!! Already planted the seed for fathers day or my birthday!!! Check in your area, this kind of stuff is really "hot" right now, pun intended!!!

I'm working with a pretty small budget and my dad is a huge Shelby and mustang fan so I'm getting him a neon Shelby clock for his office.

^Shoot, I'd like an electric impact for myself. He has a pretty decent pneumatic one, though. As far as shop tools, he's looking for a nice lift, but that's more money than I have to give.

in my spare time ( ha!) I make some handmade bits and spurs. I am no way a gifted forger. but, I like this idea for him, you might check the internet and see if you have any blacksmith craftsmen that offer that type gift in your area. I know there are some sites for it. . it is really cool what they guys know, their skills, and it is a dying art.

me. I am the worlds worst at shopping for others. you might also checks Jegs ( or maybe summit) website. they just sent me a sale deal on father day gifts but I really didn't look at them.

From the perspective of a father with pretty much grown up kids - best thing you can get him is some time spent with him.
If you want some sort of keepsake, get a photo of you two doing something together and print/frame it.

        My $0.02...

Your dad is probably about my age.. My first new MoPar was a 68Hemi RR.
That said, most of my family and friends knew me to be a MoPar guy and that seemed to give them tunnel vision when it came to gift givin.
I don't regret any of the gifts I received, but'to be honest, I have many other interests, too. Music, both playing and collecting instruments and music, model building, model railroading, photography, and woodworking.

If your dad is anything like me, he Also has other interests. If that's the case, do t limit yourself to only MoPar gifts. If he has other interests, he will enjoy gifts that recognize and support those interests, too.

            Just a thought.

I agree with 64DartGT with spending time; take him out for a good steak or something.

If that does not work, I can fix you up with a custom mirror for under a hundred bucks, delivered. Take the mirror like this one and add a line for 73 Cuda 340 or something? This is not simply vinyl stuck on a mirror. This is reverse etched and painted on the back of the mirror. It would have to be ordered early this week though...

                  - Hard to argue with the photo & time spent together ideas. - But if you've got a few hundred buck budget to work with you could have a picture of the two of you (with his 'Cuda) blown up to a large size and printed on canvas. It could look great in a man cave, garage, shop, or anywhere else. You'd probably need to figure the dimensions you need to fit first. They're not very expensive and if you combined it with a dinner and maybe something else. - you'd have a winner.
