I am swapping the original drivetrain out in my 67 Valiant shortly & won't be needing this any more. It's a 67 273 2bbl with mechanical cam & adjust rockers (original to my car) unknown mileage but is in my daily driver. It is from air cleaner to pan & from water pump pulley to trans tail shaft. The only thing that I'm keeping off of it is: fan, kick down linkage, trans lines, alt, trans inspection cover, shift linkage & (maybe the oil filter adapter unless negotiated otherwise). If you want to come hear it run & drive it before I pull it your more than welcome too. I am swapping in a 70-up 340 in & most of the pre 70 stuff won't work. The complete single exhaust is included from manifolds back & will work on all 108 wb cars

It has a fresh tune up,new heads, carb, starter, pcv, fuel pump, filters, trans fluid & filter (shifts great)
This would be a great drop in set up for someone. It does have a freeze plug weaping after it has been ran.

Well it will never be worth more than what it is worth to the person who has the car it came out of. I don't know dude. You might regret sellin that one day. 300 bucks maybe? A little more? Hard to say cause you got where it really belongs.

being that the vast majority of those cars came with 6 cylinders , i would agree that you should just stuff it away the way it sits....cause you never know

Yeah,I don't really have the space to store it & $300 seems pretty low for the whole package. I could strip it out & get more than that for it.

Once it is out of the original car people really won't want it. How often do you see people here looking for a used 273? Not often.

Exactly. That is why cars are stripped and sold for parts. The problem you have is selling useable parts. Even though the engine ran good and the cam worked fine, how many people are going to want a used cam? Certainly not a used cam for a new engine. It is also a broom stick grind.

It is easier to sell as a whole working unit.

It's not a high demand engine setup because everyone would rather put in a 340 or 360, just like how you're putting in a 340. Looks clean enough though. I would hazard that you could probably get $150-200 for the tranny and $200-300 for the engine if you found the right person. You wouldn't get much more by parting out everything and you'd have to still store the parts that didn't sell right away.

Value depends a lot depending on where your are in the world. Here you might get $100 to $150 for the tranny and you would be lucky to sell the engine complete. If you do strip the engine down I might be interested in the carb and maybe the air cleaner.

Its a big mistake to take apart the originality of your nice car there JMO!!!!! If it is original do not mess it up not many left like it and it is worth way more just like it is!!!!!

Used trannys sell for $100 here, unless really special. Sometime around 67, the 273 became less desirable, due to open chamber heads or maybe a cast crank (read different claims on that). You can get more in pieces, because people will pay $25 to get that part they need without spending time shopping around.

You can pretty much only sell an engine locally due to exorbitant shipping costs. If you can't demonstrate it running, nobody will trust your "ran OK" claims. You can run it on the ground for a minute, without a radiator (loop hoses w/ water), so someone can judge blow-by and listen for bad bearings. Otherwise, maybe $150.

If you think 300 is too cheap, what's your idea of what it's worth?

I don't want to fight with my friend StrokerScamp but I sold the stock 273 out of my Signet 18 years ago for 800 after storing it for 10 years. Those motors are great and the lifters are great to have as well.. I say box it and keep it

18 years ago things were way different. The engine had value as a daily driver to a lot of people. Not too many daily drivers now and little demand. I am like you, I say crate it and keep it.
