Hey all,
Car is a 72 Dart.
I'm having an engine built for the car. The reality is it is around 75% street and 25% strip. Saying that I beat on the car quite a bit on the road, so happy to some compromise on that.

Interested in what peoples thoughts are regards stall, on the below combo?

Engine:
318 (76) taken out to 390:
Scat cast crank and rods.
ARP everything on the bolts.
Diamond forged pistons (16.7cc).
Eddy RPM 60779 Cylinder heads (standard) c/w felpro 1008 head gaskets.
Hughes Cam - Solid flat tappet - HUG STL4246AS-8 Hughes Engines
I've calculated 9.9:1 SCR at 0 deck Low 8's DCR
Hughes 1.5 Rocker assembly
750 Mech carb (holley or brawler)
Eddy RPM Air Gap Intake
Eddy Fuel pump (mech).
Melling HV oil pump
Milodon sump
Dougs Headers

Trans:
904 with kolene steels and red alto clutches.
Cope Racing Trans Street Stip RVMB
B&M Pro ratchet Shifter

Rear
8.3/4 3.55 suregrip (489 casing)
Tyres are either 255/60/R15 (26" tall) or as currently on the car 275/60/R15 (28" tall)

My thoughts are a min 3000 stall to max 3500.

You need more gear and a 5000 stall tight with a 242/246 @050. Just my opinion.

Your cam is better suited for a high stall converter 4500 and you'll need more rear gear 3.91:1 65'

Second the 5000 stall. I run a 246 @050 in a 360 with 10.7:1 with dual quad and 4.10s with 275/60 tire (and an 8" 5000 stall converter:)). Cam is pretty sluggish below 2500, but then the converter starts to do work and life is pretty great. My car is 95% track though too.

I would call a good converter company and give them all the info they ask for and be as honest as possible. I ended up with a 9.5 inch 5200 stall for my 360 with just a slightly larger cam 251, 254@ .050 and 3:91 gears. Ultimate converter concepts, PTC are a couple that come to mind

I agree give Lenny at Ultimate converter a call he's the "best" in the bussiness and i'd go with 3.91's or 4.10's!!

On the converter… Best advice given right here ^^^
and the only one I’d pay attention to and Lenny is a great guy and awesome with this stuff.

Your going to have to make a choice here…
Mainly, your combo is off balance.
IF your going to stick with a 26” tire and 3.55’s that are more for the street, your going to have a very different converter for 4.10’s and 28” tires.
IMO, you have a pretty stout street cam with no where near enough gear even with 26” tires. Which are small, and normally helps in some areas. Not here today. The engine is going to make enough power to shred them under WOT.

I think everyone above is on target with 4.10’s and 28” diameter tires.

I'm gonna be way more conservative here...

Your compression looks spot on, you live in the UK so hot temps are rare. A 4" arm will eat duration with that 242@.050 cam. Should act more like a 232 in a 360. As long as your pump petrol is good and you can run some aggressive initial timing, i don't think anything higher then a high 3k flash converter is needed.

Thanks for the responses guys. Interesting info.

I will make a phone call when the engine is together and see what the converter people mentioned advise.
