Who knows Wipers and refills? Especially originals

There seems to be much confusion on wipers and refills. Can we pool our knowledge here to at least identify what goes with, or used to go with what?

I'm most interested in originals, but obviously fitting new refills to the older blades is of interest to many (including me). I'll start with the little I know and have found on the 'net.

ANCO Push button with rectangular "red dot".
May have come on 1968-74 Chrysler products in 15 or 16" depending on model?
This pair being offered (w/o box) on bay.
Box from these blades supposedly marked 1974, but now discarded. Visible is Rain Master PT CLEAR-FLEX.

ANCO Anti-lift. Also has a push button, but it is round.
Here's a version the seller claims is correct for B-bodies.

"Turtle back", also pushbutton
"ANCO 25 blade (Mentioned in the Trico refill page) TRICO Series 43 refills will fit.
ANCO 31 blade (current)

All of the older Anco's and Trico's refills that I've dealt are retained with with spring loaded clips. Like the ones shown here from a 70 Dart, Did ANCO have a name or model number for these? Is this the ANCO 25?

Anco's currently Listed Refills:
19 Series,stainless steel "flexor" which is the reinforcing rib. Does say what it fits.
U Series, Plastic flexor for 'square claws' Fits ANCO 31 blades
 
The top one is an original from 1966. tho other are NOS from 1965 .The early A body cars used 13 inch blades.

Tim, That's neat. Corrected my first post and took a look the wipers on my 1967 Barracuda. Buttons are there, just very faded. Single button on each blade, like the '66 blades in your first photo. These were on the car when I bought it (1989). So maybe original for '67 as well? Other than the stripe, this was a base model; slant 6, with possibly dealer a/c. Pictures below.

Was the button the entire retension system, or were there also clips into the claws?
 
The button allowed taking the blade apart. Refill was threaded into both parts. Blade reassembly captured the refill so no additional clips were req'd.
I like the more recent refill mounted clip that allows threading refill into assembled blade. Button on blade still present but no longer used. You only need to straighten out the turned down ends of the blade.
 
I bought mine for my 66 at Napa the salesman called them something like classic stainless. I dont remember the part number.
 
Redfish. Thanks for explaining that. On mine I didn't bend the end metal, just slipped the refill end past the retainer end.

Measuring the current refill and the original retaining clips it's pretty obvious that the correct refill for a 15" push button should be just shy of 15". Approximately 14 7/8" or 14 and 15/16" I think. The width of the current refill's metal strip is roughly 0.360"

Based on the above, the dimensions in semi-current catalog suggests that none of Anco's is current refills will make a very good replacement.


Using info posted by some online retailers, I believe the correct refills for the 15" Push button blades were ANCO 680 and TRICO LP-15. Presumably the 16 blades were then LP-16.
Later Anco superceded the 680 with 12-15 and presumably the 16" versions were 12-16. I think I'm going to buy one of these old refills just to see what the dimensions are.

1968 Wiper Blades:
@MuuMuu101 posted these photos on moparts, but worth reposting here.
There are some differences from '67 blades (shown in an earlier post above). One is the '67 anti-lift foil is longer. So the push button comes through the wing. On his '68 they do not. Assumption here is both the '67 blades above and the '68 blades below are original to the cars.

Comparison and Review of OER's K164R Wiper Refills:

The Good: They fit and at least in this afternoon's light rain, they worked well.
The Ugly: They are ugly when compared to an Anco 12-15. But few people will look this close and you get to keep the cool push button blades your car came with.

So the OER is a reasonable alternative for a working car keeping the original blades.
For 100 % concours, or any serious points type originality competition, these won't cut it.

The Installation:
The old Anco and presumable old Trico LP refills can be installed either direction. The raised center holds the refill very securely.

The OER K-164 replacementseems to be directional.
What worked for me was installing the notched part of the metal rib into the fixed retainer on the wiper.

Not so bad!
Maybe not quite as bulletproof as the original style. But its nice to have fresh rubber on the glass.
Compared to the price of old stock refills of unknown condition, the OER price isn't bad. Overall it seems to be a good alternative.

Regarding the 1970 Dart wipers linked in first post. No idea idea why the link is dead.

TRICO BLADES and REFILLS

Since this came up in another thread.
The 1967 parts books only list ANCO blades for A-bodies, but B-bodies could get ANCO or TRICO Blades.
The ANCO blades are described as Double Bridge and the TRICO as Single Bridge.

In 1968, 1969 and other years (you'll have to look up the year of interest) A-bodies could get blades made by either company.
The following applies to 1968, 1969 and not '67.
Chrysler p/n for the 15" TRICO Blade was 2822 990 and its refill p/n was 2889 964.

Found an e-bay photo of a restored pair from a seller that seems knowledgable on this subject. He includes a photo of the BoM that lists the Chrysler p/n.

"Anco was the dominant OE supplier for Chrysler BUT Trico supplied parts here and there usually piece meal. Thus it is not uncommon to have Anco arms and Trico blades matched together. That is the case with 1969 "A" Bodies. See the last photo, this is the Trico Factory "Bill of Materials" for 1969 Chrysler "A" Bodies. Notice it lists this blade (Trico) but they do not supply the arms. Thus a mix and match.

These blades have used (but almost perfect) stainless frames. Cleaned with ultrasound to the point that they look new. NOS, correct, soft supple, lined Trico Script Refills installed. These blades are OE Mopar because they have the 15 stamped into them. No other car maker did this. Also Trico made in USA stamped on all 4 ends "
