I have a 273 that is gonna get build ,but how radical i want to make it is up in the air.
My cars go to the track all the time and since this is a motor that has limitations ,that you have to live with,i was wondering if any body has had good success with there 273 and could give some good advice on how to get it done.
    Thanks\\\\\T67POWER:read2:

I believe there is a guy on here running a 273 in an early A for stock class and it runs like 10's or maybe even faster???? maybe he'll chime in?? I know there was quite a lengthy thread where he had some pics and details of his car...try searching "what do i need to run stock eliminator"...i could be wrong, but i think thats what the thread was called

I think his screen name was "Victory273" I am not totally sure on that. I do remember the car was clean as a pin, very well built, and it runs very strong, into the 10s I think.

I ran one in the past. I had marginal success with it. The best I ran was 14.33 at 97 mph. I had trouble getting a converter to work. I made a lot of mistakes and it was a long time ago. I want to revisit it to see if I can make it quick. I would like to see someone do it. Good luck to you and i look forward to see your success.

Oh I wanted to build one too, you know those mini V8s in Comp eliminator turn 12,000 RPMs and run in the 7's.

But they don't do it with a 3.31 stroke crank. They use a 2.95 or less stroke crank and a 4 inch or larger bore with ultra light pistons and aluminum rods.

I winged my 340 to 8,000 but after that valvetrain parts started to leave their designated station. I would love to do it but it's just to expensive and not the ideal for the racing I do. Now if I had an annual budget of about $4 million I'd go comp eliminator racing with a way high winding small block and a stick transmission.

    I say just build a high winding 340 and tell everyone it's a 273. :)

hi, first a correction, the 273 valient does not run stock, it runs super stock!!
there's a big difference between the two. now, years ago, I ran a stocker 273 dart, it went 13.31 @102.33. today, there is a valient running stock, it has went 11.90- 12.0 . just food for thought.

Hi guys: I have been racing a 273 67 Dodge in U/SA for 16 yrs. It must run the Carter BBD carb. It is smaller than the Strongberg carbs. that the 65 cars run. Everything is the same. We can run the replacement 302 heads. Full blueprint and balance and many tricks. I build my own trannys with all Alum. A&A parts and roller bearings and thrust washers. The rear gear is a lightend steel spool with a 5.57 gear. Shift at low RPMs and let her pull, these are little torquers. Go through the traps, at 6,100 -6,200 at 93 + MPH. Car is a 67 Dodge Coronet 500 weighing in at 3,600 lbs. It name is Slack Time, mabe some have seen it.

    Hope this helps!!!

A body : I forgot to mention the 67 had solids in them. The E.T.s were low 14 teen in good weather and no head wind. Headwind kills the big B bodies.

"Back in the day", a guy in our Mopar club ran a '65 Barracuda in NHRA Stock Eliminator. I remember him holding the record for his class for a couple of years. It was a race car since new; silver; named Silver Bullet. I'll never forget the time he raced another guy in the club who ran a silver '63 Dart with a 340 in it (he ran in M/P). Those cars just SCREAMED down the track together. I believe the lil' Cuda ran in the 12's (in Stock legal NHRA trim) and the Dart ran in the 11's with two 4's on a tunnel ram. Both cars had 4 speed transmissions.

I've known of some other sweet 273s from back then too, but today it just seems like you'd be better off putting the same money into a 340 or 360, depending on what body you're running and what class you want to run. However, you've probably been told this before...
