Does anyone have experience with this cam in their smallblock? Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft; 1964 - 2003 Chrysler 273, 340, 360 1800 to 5800 Howards Cams 711451-08 | Howards Cams
What was the rest of your combo and did you like it? Thank you, drive through.

Oooo, nice little cam. Outta thump we’ll.
Sorry, no experience with it.

I think it looks like a dandy little street cam with plenty of lift and not too much duration. Would really benefit from some slightly worked heads. It’s on the short list for my 318’s refreshing this winter. I’m afraid I may have to trim the guides down a bit because of my 1.6 rockers though.

That is a good looking cam. Wonder what converter you would need. It starts at 1800 so like a 2800 stall? Is the their lift rated with 1.5 rockers or 1.6? You would get even more lift with 1.6 correct? ( if their specs are at 1.5)

The converters stall rating would need to be used in connection with the cars weight, gear and tire size as well as useage. I think he can get away with as low of a stall as 2000, though 2300-2500 would be much better for driving around. A higher stall would be great with high gears and drag racing/street strip like quality. 2800 & 4,10’s w/27” tires.

Converters should be selected for the purpose and chosen wisely. I push the EZ button and I call the pros.

Needs at least a 2500 convertor. Less would be silly. Have the correct convertor made for the app

And with a 104lsa that cam will be lumpy despite the 220@.050.

You guys and your silly converters. Only 4 speeds in my stable.
Watcha doing for pistons and heads? Stock?
Pistons are el cheapo cast replacements about a country mile down in the hole. Heads are 2.02/1.60 factory Js. Gasket matched, 1.6 rockers. Compression has not been measured but all cylinders show at least 130 psi with current Comp 280H cam.
Plan is to shave heads .060, Mr. Gaskets 1128G, and maybe install the cam 4* advanced.

I have a solid from them thats 260@50 on a 106. Have it installed at 102. Its in a little over 10 to 1 stock stroke 360 i am currently running.
Coolest sounding cam i have ever heard and makes real nice power. Kinda sounds like a 50 cal machine gun idling around at 12-1500 rpm in the pits. Lol... love it

I agree even though I seen people get away with less, the results are SLUGISH!

LMAO

2500 min for reasonable reaction & street gearing.

Ya don’t see many people use Howard’s cams. There under the radar. Nice cams. Good ramp rates. Very good lift with there durations.

LOL on the country mile.... Good deal.... sounds like a good plan to me for a simple 318 build. Cam installed as ground, with the ICL at 104, the ICA is at 57-58 degrees..... gets DCR up into the 7.2-7.3 range with those heads milled.... a tad more than a stock 318 in the low RPM's.

With 3.91 gears, 4 speed, and a heavy foot it should prove to be fun. The motor is turning 3000 RPM at 60 mph so should be right in the middle of the power band if I need to pass or just for smiles

Got a part number for that? Spose I could look it up. I’m sure it’s too much for my teener anyway. I don’t have anywhere near 10-1. I do like to wind it up though. I try my best to rip the V-Gate right out of the floor just running to get a gallon of milk.

That seems similar to the 380hp magnum cam my car has, with 2.96 rear gears and a 2800 stall its driveable but soft under 2000 rpm. Under 40 mph it likes 2nd gear through town. Still fun but 3.55 plus gears would really wake up my combo. Plus I got a single plane which don't help. 4.10-4.56 are in my future so all should be well.

I imagine that cam would be very similar.

2.96 to 4.56!?! Holy Moses, you’re in for a BIG surprise.
