I have a set of Dougs headers installed in my 1965 Dart Gt 273. The header pipes curve around the torsion bars in such a way that there is very little clearance between the torsion bars and the pipes. With the torsion bars being so close to the pipes, will the heat from the exhaust cause damage to them? Should I think about replacing them, or how do I know if they are bad?

    No worries about header heat.

Thanks, one less thing to worry about. Do the torsion bars ever need to be replaced?

A lot of us would be screwed if header heat affected the bars.
They need replaced if you can't get them to act how you want them to.
ie, saggy, mushy or too soft and bottoms all the time even though adjusted up.

Header heat will never conduct enough heat to the bars to cause any annealing.

There does come a time when no matter how much you adjust them for more ride height, they just don't respond as much. When the car becomes mushy when going over speed bumps or depressions in the road. Often people think it shocks but when the new shocks do not cure the issue...
