PSA to anyone with Dynalite calipers. Check your seals.

I have been chasing a soft pedal/brake line leak for weeks. Brand new build with 0 miles. I initially thought it was a faulty flare that I had made. Checked the entire system numerous times. No leaks. Evrything was dry as a bone. Could not get the front brakes to bleed and hold pressure. It would build pressure then immediately go soft.

I bypassed the proportioning valve, then the line lock, trying to narrow down where the air was getting in. Couldn't find anything. I even remade some lines, thinking that maybe they weren't seating correctly.

When we manually bled them, I noticed a squishing sound coming from the calipers. I initially thought it was the sound of the ceramic pads pressured against the rotor. I listened again with a stethoscope and could hear the sound on both the +pressure and -pressure cycles.

So I pulled the brake pads out, and all 4 piston seals were leaking on both sides. Makes sense now why the rear brakes were fine and the fronts wouldn't bleed. Cannot believe that would happen on a brand new set. Bought these in November of 21".

Need to call Wilwood tomorrow and see what they're going to do. Happy that I found the problem, but frustrated that they're the problem

Not pleased with Wilwood products:

When they change something they often quit making
replacement parts for the old item

I called Wilwood yesterday. They offered no help whatsoever. Will not warranty the calipers. Would not send me a rebuild kit.

Nothing.

Their position is that even though the brakes are brand new, since they were purchased last November, it doesn't qualify for a replacement.

These people can kiss my a$$. No accountability at all. I'll go out of my way to never buy anything from them ever again.

Took these turds apart last night. Awaiting the rebuild kits from Summit to arrive. A few of the pistons have some interesting scuffs on the sides that I wouldnt expect to see on new brakes. Hopefully the seals will work and the brakes will finally bleed.

And people wonder why I run DoctorDiff brakes and steer clear of Wilwood. They’ve been trading on their name and reputation that they built when they were one of only a couple aftermarket brake options. But their actual product has been getting worse in quality and hasn’t improved as much as some of the other options out there in the same time.

They’re far more about the “name” then they are about the performance or quality, and have been for years.
