That would be $357.30 each. I would rather spend it on a car with 15" red lines that could be driven.

^ I agree, but people buy some strange things for even stranger money. It always makes sense to them at the time.

    That brings back memories!
My uncle had a corner store and had a few boxes of these.
He would give me and my brother a few to play with when we went over for a visit. (I was about 9 years old then.)
I wouldn't pay that for them, but obviously there are people out there who would.......

Id more likely invest 40 k into gold than stuff that no one will ever buy when the economy tanks.

Even if I had the money I would not. This is just like "unbuilt Heathkits" which seems to be the rage with some people

You buy this box of parts, a CARDBOARD box of parts. You cannot open it, much less put it together and USE is, or you LOSE 9/10 of the "value." All you can do is park the thing on a shelf and show all your buddies your "unbuilt Heathkit."

    Nope.

Here's one now for over 5 bills. Know what these are built, working, at a hamfest / feamart? About 20- 40 bucks, if yer lucky. this one is not even "originally packaged"

some people just have too much damn money and not enough imagination.

I could have one hell of a good time with $36k.

I could get a few thousand machete slingshots and invite coworkers over for a party. this kind of frivolous spending is way more productive.

I wouldn't pay that for them, are some of them valuable probably but not all of them if you
Opened it and sold them off you would lose your ass big time so they are not worth it

it's supposed to be the whole set of 1970 redline cars . It says one of each on the side of the box but still it's more than my restored fastback would fetch .

Well seven different bidders with bids over $30k, so that must be market value.
I guess that's the cost to have the only sealed 1970 complete assortment.
I've purchased many '60 & '70 era toys that people thought I was crazy at the time but they have been my best investment!

It is also interesting that many high quality "nostolgic" items sell for amounts out of reach to most mortal wallets - my guess is that many people with a lot more spendable money than I would rather have an item they like than watch it disappear in the stock market.
