I had a new tank installed in my 70 340 swinger and when I got under it today I see 4 lines coming out of it that the old one did not have. 3 of these are plugged and the 4th has a hose on it running to the filler neck. Also, when the air temp rises, gas starts leaking out of the tank around the filler neck until I loosen the cap and then a surge of pressure exits the tank. Is this tank safe, and how do i fix the venting problem?

I'm going to guess wrong tank. The key is the filler neck on the tank, does yours have the separate vent line in the filler neck?

CA and or maybe "late" 70 would have had the "carbon can" otherwise known as the evaporative emissions control system. This would have had the surge can in the trunk, with a second line going up front to the carbon can system which provided the vent system, and the cap would have been the so called pressure vacuum cap

"Oldmanmopar" has posted, there were several changes over the years in the filler necks and caps of the emissions control filler necks

This is the evap emissions deal

The earlier tank would have had the vent plumbed into the filler neck and would have been a simple 1/4 line going up, a "U" bend up high in the rear quarter, and down and through the trunk floor, ending in the rear frame rail. This was the vent and was open. The cap was sealed.

This is how the 70/ earlier vents all worked

"That depends" You need a vent, so you need to make sure you have one. Have you checked the filler tube? Is there a vent there as in the bottom drawing? Maybe it's plugged?
