WTH is Scotty Kilmer's problem, anyway?

Why is Scotty Kilmer always bashing Chrysler products?

I can't decide whether he reminds me more of Consumer's Reports, with their completely phony ratings of Chrysler products just to sell more magazines, or Hillary Clinton when she hysterically denounced the "deplorables".

I sure am getting tired of it. (I know, I should stop watching.) Most of his videos recently have been major Chrysler bashes. He must have discovered that his viewers really like it or something.

FWIW, I have driven Chrysler products for about 55 years, and I think I have received very good service from them.

Any car is going to have defects because they contain so many parts, but the real issue is whether the manufacturer stands behind the product or not. Scotty recently did a very misleading video criticizing the early Ultradrive transmission used on the K-cars and minivans, but he failed to mention that Chrysler stood behind those transmissions by upgrading them to later specs, with the customer paying only a very reasonable co-pay. My original transmission failed after 80,000 miles, but my dealer upgraded it to the revised specs for only $300, and after that it was really bulletproof.

Then he criticized Chrysler for using cheap shock absorbers in the early '60's, but they were the same kind of shock every other manufacturer was using, and if they failed early you just had your dealer install new ones under the warranty. And he neglected to mention that Chrysler was offering a 5-year, 50,000-mile warranty when the other manufacturers were offering 12 or 18-month warranties.

It's getting to where I just don't think Scotty knows what he is talking about.

I quit reading consumer reports after they gave the same average ratings (exactly the same except for two minor sub-categories being flipped) to the tacoma and the Dakota, but rated the toyota "best buy" and the dakota "average".

...well that and the beer issue. Come on, beer is way to subjective to buy what a panel in a magazine recommends.

I watched his show once because it became clear early on that he was just another TV hack.

Wow, that guy just used a ferrule fitting to splice a brake line. This is why I learned to work on my own vehicles instead of paying some hack to do it.

Which is acceptable and legal even under NHRA rules (IF you use steel ferrules) but that isn't.

I have no idea who this guy you are talking about is.

Glad you have had good experiences with Chrysler for 55 years. Same can’t be said for my personal experiences with them. Bought a new dodge shadow in 92, just. Back to the dealership more times then I can remember and on top of it they dented it while in getting a motor mount repaired. I almost got arrested before they finally agreed to fix it. Then it had to go back three more times till the repair was presentable. Traded that in on a 93 Dakota. Holy hit. Paint falling off it in a year. Clunk in the steering that everyone but the service dept could feel. Got rid of that shit box before warranty was done so they couldn’t screw me on that repair down the road. Went to Toyota’s and had nothing but good experiences with the vehicles and dealerships. Then in 09 or so I think maybe Chrysler got their dealership act together. Bought a 07 magnum with 14,000 miles on it. Holy shit what a shit box. Constantly are the dealer with that piece of crap. Dealer was a horrible experience experience every time we went. Finally they tried to charge me 600 bucks for something that wasn’t broken. Told them fuckers I’d have a Toyota in the driveway by the end of the week. Had s used Camry by the end of the week. What a refreshing feeling having a reliable car again. Never again will I buy another new Chrysler product. Today we have a Honda,Toyota and a Mini Cooper in the driveway. Couldn’t be happier.

If you prefer to watch sub-5 minute videos that teach you absolutely nothing, watch Scotty Kilmer. If you would rather watch somebody fix a car the right way, and you learn from it, watch(among others) South Main Auto.

Predictably, at this point it looks like more people want to be entertained for 4 minutes rather than take 30 minutes to learn something. A lot of YT channels now are a version of the old medicine man. They give you an illusion of teaching you something wrapped around a total merchandising job. "Buy my t-shirt, buy my stickers, join me on Patreon".

I too, have had great luck with Chrysler products Bill. Give me a Chrysler product over any POS Honda, Toyota, VW, Kia, etc foreign crap. Of course, it sucks to no end that Chrysler is now owned by a foreign entity, but hey, ALOT of Americans livelihood's depend on them.

This has been beat to death, but these days Honda, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan and VW are produced here in the USA. They make Toyota engines about 20 miles south of here(Huntsville), Nissan engines about 50 miles east(Decherd), VW's in Chattanooga, Kia in West Point, GA, Hyundai in Montgomery and Honda in Lincoln, AL. They employ a lot of Americans down here. I understand folks' views are colored by their emotions, but we run fleets of Altima's and Camry's, including one I drive myself, and POS is not a word I would label them with. The 2016 camry I drive had 14K on it when I got it last November and when a year rolls around next month it will have about 52K. Not a hint of trouble.

Tyler's neighborhood garage is one of my favorites. I also like Dylan McCool and corvette Ben.

I wont buy a new car period from anyone. Give it 5 years, and knock 50% off the list price. Friend has a Ford Fusion, and another has a Subaru...uh one up from the base model SUV. Both are like space ships inside with all the TV screens. Imagine how long those LCD screens will last. Surely not 53 years like the guages on my '65. Only reason I got my SC400 (with its unserviceable ball joints) is it was my Dads, and the Mommy van is a 2012 Dodge, great so far aside from the crazy electronic transmission that just seems to always be shifting. Shifts way too early for me but its pretty smooth. Dealer had to 'service' 2 washers in the axles to cure a clunk on shifting, only cost $90...Jeez, did they only tighten the castle nuts?

Scotty Kilmer is a joke and a hack. My son was into his YouTube channel for a while. So I sat down and watched an episode, I could not believe that this guy has followers and people buy into his advice. It's sad and the very reason people don't have a clue how to work on their own cars correctly.

Just my opinion. I work on them everyday, and they will always be POS's to me. Yep, they supply some blue collar jobs, I'll give you that much......I just like sticking up for Chrysler when I can. Old habits die hard.

I NEVER read Consumer Reports. When you consider some of the GARBAGE they have called best buys and some of the great products they have trashed, I can't have any faith in them at all. I wouldn't be surprised if some money wasn't changing hands for some of those ratings.

Wow. What an idiot. At first I was going to disagree with you, because before I started the video, it appeared the union he used was a double flare union, which would have been completely acceptable. After watching though, I see he used a ferrell union. What an idiot. Those things are not designed to handle the kind of pressure brake lines carry.

In many cases your Chrysler is more foreign then some of that so called foreign crap you say you don’t like. Hell plenty of that so called foreign crap supplies a lot of American jobs too.
