You learn something new everyday. How long will an LA small block hold up at 550 horsepower

-
7 hard 1/4 mile passes with slicks
1 deep mud run in 4wd and bald tires
700 roundy round trips
8 seasons out to sea (raw water cooled)
20 seasons out to sea (closed system)

So many variables. 550hp 318 is a way different animal than 550hp 408. But I’ll wait for the answer.

Ok this is what I learned tonight. Thank God for Facebook because now I won’t bother building a small block.

Your response is classic John. Just
“WRONG”. And you’re definitely the one to prove it.

I would say they could hold up indefinitely.

I don't know much about Jr. But I do know Herb Sr. was all for quality parts such as carillo and callies to name a couple.
He told me years ago it was cheaper to go faster, buy the best, do it once.

I believe you channeled your inner John McGlauthlin towards Jr. there! Kudos!

dyno mule, bored .100 over.
There's a difference between a mule and weekly race engine.
My main point wasn't the engine in the article but the treatment, don't know much about it 1st time hearing about it, looks like it cost $600 for the block and $1000 for the whole engine but if does gain 30-40% strength probably worth it for a 550 plus hp motor.
