My best deal was back in 1986. Yes that long ago ( I was 17). I bought a 1966 Coronet 500 off the original owner for $650.00. I saw an ad for it. I thought it was a miss print. It said to have a 361 in it. At the time I never knew about the 361. I thought it meant to say 360. I called an talked to an older woman. I then made arrangement to see the car on Sunday. Saturday I couldn't take it any more. I had my mom( yea lame) drive me over to check it out. When I got there I was looking at an all original one owner car. It didn't take me long to strike a deal. She was asking $750. Then I found out that she mistaking me for the guy who was supposed to be there to look at the car. He pulled a no show. Lucky me. She made me wait a week to pick up the car. She had to do it right. Had the bill of sale notarized and everything. When I picked it up she was vacuuming it out. She then handed me the keys but I said why don't you start one more time. I thought a tear was going to come. But she took the keys and fired it up with a smile. I loved that car. It was my first experience with a sure grip. My older friend showed me how to do a burnout. I felt the car slide sideways and let off right away. My friend asked why I let off. I told him didn't you feel the car sliding? He just smiled and said that's a good thing. A week later I had smoked the rear tires off the car. I got the hang of a sure grip! Next year out came the 361 in with a 440, Now the fun really started. Every car has a place in my mind or heart but the car was one of my favorite. I can still smell the smoke!View attachment img004.jpg

My best deal was about three years ago when i was 19 i bought a 71 demon with a slant six in it running and driving. Came with a 69' 340 hi po a 68' A833 four speed and a 68' 8 3/4 rear plus the go wing was already mounted and the hood scoops and fresh air ports were drilled and fitted nicely and the hood pins were already installed. And i got a set of the 15'' rallye wheels with her plus the steel 14'' wheels for around 5,000

I have come across quite a few in my time but I remember when I was just eighteen year old. I was working on a cotton farm in West Texas, it was the spring of 1977. I was driving the tractor to field a ways away and saw a car parked in a yard with the hood up. I went back on my day off to ask if it was for sale. They asked what my offer was. I looked in my wallet and said I've got sixty bucks. Yep, 1969 GTX with a 4-Speed and a blown up 440 engine for $60.00. I even got the title! I was never able to get the car back to California (just the title) but that was probably the best deal / cheapest car I ever bought.

Lucky me and stupid me.... Gas went to a $1.00 a gallon and you could buy any really slick HI-performance car you wanted for $300 and I had quite a few. Stupid me didn't keep a dang one of them. Needless to say that was many decades ago.

got a 1973 Duster 340 for free from an older fellow after his wife nagged him to get rid of it so they could expand the garden..Been sitting for 20 years... 15 minutes with a battery and gas and I drove it up on the trailer....Currently out back awaiting its turn to be restored.

The best deal on which I obtained a MoPar was...

After making a mention that I liked my freinds dad's duster to him, he called me up and said clean this (1) car garage spic and span and get rid of my sons Ford Granada leagally!, and you can have the car.

Well **** yea I dumped everything into the Granada and called in a favor to my tow guy who did slowly agree to take it away. 4 hours and a phone call, I now own a 1973 Duater Equiped with a 318-2, 3spd manual, suregrip Equiped 3.21 rear with buckets, fold down rear seat, moon roof on a half landau top! Blue ext. Black interior.

Now if I could only find another one......

1991 a 71 duster with a blown rear wheel bearing for $100. I replaced the bearings and drove it for two years. Over those two years the only repairs I did were heater core, wheel cylinders, and points. total about $200.

My 68 formula s 340 4 speed fastback in 2006 for 200 bucks, Had under 7000 original miles with zero rust. It was gutted to make a race car in 70 and never finished. Inside was a brand new header panel, lower valence, complete nos grills, bunch of new fluidamprs, race engine parts and bunch of other little things

Same week found another 340 formula s fastback(looked like the twin) complete down to ever nut and bolt with a fresh 340 that was rebuilt and never run for 1700 bucks. I used that car for parts since the frame was gone.

This spring , local craigslist as had 81 sx4 amc with a mopar engine in it. Went and looked at it and had a 340 6 pack ta motor in it. Got it for 1600. Just finished motor and is on the stand waiting to go in my 71 duster. Most of the parts on the amc will work on the my amx as well. so was a win win.

In 1982, Co-worker had a 69 340 4 speed Dart ....He got a new car from Dad...wanted to sell me Dart for 1000.00...told him I could not afford the car....two weeks later he asked if I would give him 200 bucks for it....and I could make payments on it...

In 72 I bought a 66 Hemi Belvedere 4 speed 4.88 Dana for $3000.00. In 73 I bought a 70 340 4 speed red on red Duster. It was low miles and had a 4.30 gear, 780 Holley and a Mallory dual point for $1700.00. Ah the good old days.

1985 I got a 70 340 4 speed Duster with a Go Wing for $800. Of course I was too young and stupid to take care of it. Sure was fun while it lasted!

In 1975 or 1976 I traded 2 Ford pickups for a 1969 Super Bee! Anytime you can trade 2 Fords for 1 Dodge it's a real deal! :-D :-D
Dallas

In 1989 I bought a 1969 Road Runner with 356 miles on it yes 356 miles. It was 3 days old when wrecked and parked in a small garage until I bought it in 1989.I paid $650.00 for the car and sold it a few months later for $1300.00 I was 19 lived at home and had nowhere to keep the car.I found the car a few years ago on Ebay. The owner wanted $10,000 for the car.The car was near Kansas City and still not restored.Matter of fact the car was missing alot of the original parts. And someone let the car sit outside for a while and the mint interior was ruined. What a shame the car had 356 miles on it and it was ruined by owners not taking care of the car.
Also a 69 Valiant 4 door with 60,000 miles on it for $300.00 I drove the car for about 5 years met my wife and then see drove the car for about 5 more years.Spark plug broke off in the engine and the car started to rust so I junked it.Now I wish I would have fixed it.The Wife and I both loved that little car.
Also bought a 1967 Coronet roller around 1995 for $200.00.It was a very clean body with very little rust.I cleaned up the interior and dropped in a built 383 and 727.I sold the car to pay for my garage floor for the garage I was building.I really loved that car and would like to have another.

I've had a couple of them....

in '85 my 1st car was a '74 Dart 318 4 door I got for free - needed front tires and a tune-up - original owner was an old man who just didn't think it was worth it.

in '86 sold the 4 door because I a free '71 Swinger with a blown up /6 - dropped a free /6 in it from a wrecked taxi

in '88 picked up a complete '71 B'cuda 318 car for $200 bucks and parted it out. same year picked up a wrecked '71 340 'Cuda for $150 because I wanted the grill.

in '96 gave a guy $150 for a '71 Imperial with severe rust issues (rear window was laying on the package tray be cause t rusted out and fell in) because I wanted the 440 for the '69 Coronet I bought from his son for $700.

in '98 my current '69 Fury ragtop was given to me by the original owner and his son just because I promised to save it

parts car for my ragtop - '69 fury 2 door with rust free fenders/hood/doors/deck lid - and had a '67 383 4bbl in it - old guy wanted $400 for it and said it was the fastest shine runner he ever had after doing the engine swap

had an '87 (?) Dakota given to me as a favor

sometime around 2000 I drug a '70 Newport ragtop home for $300

parted out a $150 '74 Newport Brougham

Jake picked up his 65 B'cuda for $400 just over 2 years ago (if ya been watchin our build, you'll see it is done! WOO-HOO!!!!!)

oh, and bought my '05 quad cab diesel Ram for only $29k 2 years used with under 19k on the clock.

My First car was my best deal! 67 dart gt 273 auto in the floor gold with gold int. one owner and it was spot less! It had a burnet valve and smoked but me and PaPa fixed that $300.00 bucks is what I payed for it I wish deals where still out there like that it was 1984!

I picked this up for $500 looking just as you see it here. Had a bad engine, got one for free.Daily driver going on 3 years now.Have less than $2500 invested.
The only other "Deal" was my first car back in 73,a 66 Valiant for 16 bucks.
