HI ALL,
i have a 68 383 4 speed dart gts all factory stock with mopar stage v heads and cam is p4452993
i took the car out a few weeks ago and noticed a miss while driving it .
checked it out on sunday and found #4 cylinder had the misfire
plugs and wire are good, compression around 135 A little less than all other cylinders that are 150
pulled valve cover and found intake rocker was loose ,removed rocker shaft and rockers
i can push lifter with push rod on intake side with no resistance. BAD LIFTER???
so i pulled lifter out thru the cylinder head and it wore and has a hole in bottom of lifter, basically its a junk lifter and cam shaft

my question is
what brand of cam and lifter set is the best out there???

the cam in the car is a mp p4452993
i would like to stay with the same cam specs
hydraulic lift 474"
overlap 60
duration280
centerline 110

If your motor ate a lifter that bad guess where all that metal went.
That may even be why one cylinder is a bit lower on compression.

I know, nobody wants to hear that.

YEP i know
if its not one thing its another....
i looked at oil and didn't see any shiny metal in it so its gotta be okay...lol
when car started with the miss i was 3 miles from home so did not drive very far,but still damage was done...

I had one lifter and one lobe go on the cam on one of our motors.
The general consensus was “The oil filter will catch it”
NOT
The metal showered on to two rods at the crank destroying the rod bearings and crank both.
Also scored the cylinders from crap flying off the crank.
It did this before the metal ever had a chance to get filtered.

You probably have a lifter that's not spinning.

roller??? i'm sure that will be expensive. cam ,lifters, pushrods, rockers?????
i enjoy just driving the car, I don't need more headaches to deal with.lol
plus its all numbers matching and wont be beating on it.
Now is the time to go roller.

yeah probably what did it in.
but it was easy to remove from lifter bore just pulled it out with a magnet thru the head/pushrod opening
cam and lifters have been in the engine for 24 years and have not had any running issues at all until now

Lifters: find some factory lifters & have them re-faced [ you can use S/B lifters if easier to find ]......unless you want to go through this again....
