Went to Hampton blowers in Downey Ca for Don Hampton’s birthday cacklefest. Lots of cars showed up and made plenty of noise. A few boats also. It was a great time. Enjoy some pics I took.

Coolest Birthday Candles Ever! How old is Don now? A Hampton 6-71 has become a big ticket item on the wishlist lately.

Nothing like the smell of nitro while wetting your hands over the pipes at an idle. Dave at HTA where my son worked has the old Hemi Hunter. Same car that ran against the Swamp Rat. I was in my late 20's when going with Roland.

The first day I went with Roland, Mike Dunn con'd me to sit in the car when they fired it on the stand under the tent. I was wondering why they were laughing when I said yes. Got in , They gave me No respirator, I got out spitting , coughing and gagging. Judy Lilly came over and gave me a drink. They were all characters,

My wife and I did have a blast though. Met a lot of people and saw big money changing hands in that trailer. I always wondered where we would be if my wife and I took Rolands offer. Takes a lot of courage to put your ***,balls and legs on and over the differential behind one of those engines. I asked Dave at HTA if he ever thinks of that in the Hemi Hunter. He laughed and said that is the last thing on your mind when aiming that car down your lane.

I think he’s in his late 80s. Still puts in a 7 day work week building blowers and running the shop.
