Would like te relocate my 5" Autometer Monster Tach to a more visible position without sacrificing my dash pad.
What worked for you guys?
What worked for you guys?
I made a sheet metal bracket that wrapped around the dash pad. It went under the top pad in the front about 2 inches. then folded back around the pad. formed it to go to a hole the previous owner had drilled in the face of the dash just to the right of the cluster.
i did the same just on the right side of the wheel instead of the left, i can see the tach from 1500rpm up to 7k without moving my headI did not want to scar up the dash either. I found I could do this install below with a standard mount bolted in right at the underneath leading dash pad edge not effecting the dash or pad. When removed it is undetectable. And yes, I can read the tach & needed gauges (fuel) & signal stalk fine ~ and its not in my way at any time. (sorry for low quality pic tho)View attachment 1715034834

We are thinking of carrying this tach bracket. No damaging dash pad! Look at the photos and let me know your opinion. Introductory pricing at $79.00.
Sincerely,
Michael

yup, that's the guy. Good to hear from you, Michael. Hope you're doing well, we haven't talked in years!

That guy is Jon Sterns. He is the designer for the product pictured above. Due to health concerns he cannot market these himself and asked if we will do it for him. I think the part is pretty slick and it's very easy to use. Really not much to dislike.
So what holds that bracket on? Just the fit under the dash pad? I'd be interested, but I'm not going to beat up the dash pad.
I am a little worried becase the core of the pad is just thin sheetmetal. These tachs are not light, and then you got heat working against the pad as well. I worry it might make the pad warp/lift over time.
