Stop in for a cup of coffee

The blue fish were running hot today. I caught 24. Just finished cleaning them...

Here's a tomato-based chowder that to me is best when you use bluefish. The fish breaks apart into fine flakes giving the soup a great texture. I haven't had it in forever and oh boy it smells so good cooking. I worked at a place back in 1980 that served this chowder.

Looks like a great recipe. These fish are a bit to small for it though, they are between 11-14" long and are more like freshwater trout...snapper blues. Best prepared like you would a small steam trout. I've caught over 60 of them so far on this vacation on the Island.

In other news, I got a call about my Dad today. He has asperative pneumonia. He is losing his ability to swallow so saliva an other fluids are going into his lungs. We expect him to be placed into hospice in the next day or two. This is the number one way that Alzheimer's patients eventually die.

It was a real kick in the teeth to come back after a great day of fishing on the Island he loved to get the news. Maybe the day of fishing was the universe's way of bringing me closure and acceptance of the situation. The greatest day fishing I ever had in my life was here on this Island 40 years ago with my Dad. All day today as the fish kept biting, I was constantly remembering that day.
