Eclipse rip-off

If you click on the "41 sold", you'll see they're sold for $35 which is still too much I think.

I'll do the cardboard box trick for free

SUCKERS!!!! Just got back from ground zero, Boise Idaho, 100 percent total eclipse area, and glasses were going for.....two dollars.

I can't find any cheap ones here in east Tennessee, the only place that has any in stock wanted $9.25 each.

I hear there are many thousands headed North to see the deal.. small town America will be over run with eclipse watchers. gas stations will run dry, all moon pies will sellout, gator aide and bottled water too! people will camp out in anyone's front yard that is out in the sticks ( like here when a BIG hurricane is coming)... a trip worthwhile no doubt!!?????

low supply and high demand = insanity... remember when Twinkies went away? Wasn't there a box of them on that auction site for some stupid thing like $499 - ? Don't get me wrong - if it's your thing, go nuts! -but some prior planning could save "you" a good chunk of change... you can't jump on the bandwagon at the 11th hour and not expect to pay for it.

Was in 4th grade for 1972 Total eclipse that happened while i was in class. We had no eye protection at all and were told to look at it in brief intervals. Which we did because we respected our teachers. Was very cool and none of us ended up with retina damage or anything else.

Actually we are not in the 100% Zone here in Boise.... I guess the difference between 99% and 100% is night and day... ( pun intended).
I have had 2 separate friends that have experienced TOTAL eclipses tell me that.
Melissa and I are taking the Dual Sport up into the TOTAL ZONE about 60 miles north of here.

Mopar Tim....What were you doing in Boise ?

welding helmet wont cut it if its under 14. but no fool is going to stare at it. I saw an 80% and it was bright as day with some light tinted glasses equivalent. Just buy them Wednesday on Ebay.
>>Found my 10mm Celestron SUN filter and made a rough adapter for my DSLR from a 55mm SKY filter and a paper plate. First 2 are mirrorless Kodak Z900 with 30X zoom, last one is a 300mm lens on a Pentax DSLR with no processing. Hand held, tripod may sharpen more.

Not hard. Just don't look right at it. Can understand excitement if you have never seen one but damn. Eclipse parties. Really. Of course it is 2017 . Don't underestimate the ability of a modern fool ( idiot ).

Not just eclipse parties, the little town of Spring City TN is having a weekend long festival in two of their parks.

My brother is there for the Western Idaho Fair. I pulled a trailer there for him.
Got broke down there as well, new Ford in the shop. :BangHead:

...just watch it on your weather or news channel.
Sorry; gotta disagree. That's like saying, "Don't bother going to Paris, London, Greece, or whatever, just watch a show on TV." There is NO substitute for seeing some things in real life. I live in Topeka, Kansas (about 25 miles South of the 100% band), so it will be easy for me. If you CANNOT watch it live, then by all means, watch it on TV. They are selling Eclipse glasses here or about $3 each. I will look a little here and there, but even with the glasses, I won't just stare at the eclipse forever.

Harrison... You should travel the 45 miles north to be in the 100% zone.... I am told that 99% is like dusk and 100% is toal black and the stars come out... Owls hoot... If you are on water turbulance may happen due to thermal cooling and winds....
Pretty cool sounding !

For Paris, London,Greece and an eclipse... Google might be better!
Now.. canoeing on a crystal clear northern lake with a couple of 3 lb. speckles on a stringer is a different story!
I'm just messin with you guys!

Catching some nice fish sounds pretty good. I never went fishing as a kid, and the few times I've gone as an adult, all I did was drown worms. maybe if I actually caught something, I could get into it. I don't really know anyone who fishes.

Funny I feel the same after sitting for hours as a kid to catch a couple perch I hate fishing.

I love fishing! I spent a lot of time learning how to be good at it and now it is one of the greatest pleasures in my life. Just caught these a couple of days ago...

Fishing isn't hard, but it requires patience and a willingness to learn. Some is trial and error and the rest is perseverance.

Nice looking catch. Maybe I'll come to Pennsylvania and have you teach me. I don't want to hijack this thread, but I am curious who taught you how to fish? Is it something I could teach myself, and/or out of books?

Glad we had our trip planned in feb. camp site was cheap. Got s 10 pack of glasses for like $17.

Got here in murphy nc Friday about 1pm. Our site will have a perfect view of the eclipse.

Funny.... I camp a lot and cant imagine paying for a site.... Just drive back i to the mountains 20-40 miles and find a nice spot.

We camped like that growing up here in So Cal desert. Permit? We don't need no stinkin' permit! We just found some random dirt road off 395, north of Victorville and drove it till we got tired. Sometimes we just stopped on the dirt road and made camp right there, never saw another soul on those trips. Once I took a motorcycle out tooling, and found myself on a firing range on China Lake NAWS! Oops! I see this huge X on the end of this bowl shaped canyon and hundreds of blue 20mm rounds on the ground. I turned and hauled azz out of there, but not before grabbing 3 inert 20mm rounds and shell casings.
