I was upstairs digging out the old cylinder heads that we had in the sort-it-all-out-trash-pile and throwing them in the scrap iron outside. They were mostly a bunch of 452, 902, 915 and 906 big block heads, with a few small block heads thrown in, and look what showed up. Notice the intake pushrod hole location?

Yes, 915 casting number. That boys, is what a T/A head looks like!

Oh, and no, I didn't throw the 915 big block head away.

Cool. How well did the TA Flow vs the rest of a alphabet heads?
Suprise, stock it doesn't flow any better than the other heads. It's nothing more than a 915 with the pushrod holes machined in a different location. These have a J cast on the outside and a U on the underside. Is part of the U missing on the outside? Dunno.

Why did they do that

Is there a known pattern as to what 915 head got the "J" or the "U" on the outside of the head? In the stash I have, there's "J's" with a backwards "J" on the outside also (as in 2 visible symbols).

TA head is J head with pushrod moved and require TA rockers.

Somehow, I think your meaning and my meaning of junk pile is different.

T/A heads, nice!

The 915 series heads can be J, O, U or Z castings, the letters mean nothing.

In standard form they appeared on 1970 340s & some were offset drilled for T/As & AARs as shown to allow for intake porting - IF the buyer opted for it.

They were also used on '71 up engines, including 360s with smaller intake valves.

If you have the matching rocker arm set, easy sale if you choose to.

The heads come up for sale fairly often, but the rockers are not reproduced anywhere.

Ready for this? I gave away a set of T/A rocker arms about a year ago!

Psh why couldn't I get that lucky.

Since you gave the rockers away, I can pm you my address to send the heads too

Today, in the outside scrap pile, went big block 516, 452, 902 & 906 heads. Stealth & Super Stealth, Mopar Performance Stage VI aluminum heads. Stage VI intake mainfold, MP 440 Single Plane. Boxes of stock valves, valve springs, pushrods, rocker arms, valve covers, dampers, camshafts. 318 & 360 small block heads. Some early Chrysler Hemi heads. But it really was all mostly junk.

Some was pretty interesting though. Sets of ported iron, where we finished one head and ground a hole in the second. Threw both heads away, not going to bother porting iron again. I've got Stage V iron heads like that, they're going in the pile too.

I got a sonic tester to see how thick the walls are when I port them instead of guessing.
plus I can check my own blocks now. I have never ground through but I might be able to go bigger now that I know what I got.

You're gonna make me cry!!!

I had that conversation with a member and was chided for saying the same thing. I was told the TA head outflowed other heads by 10-15 cfm having a different port... UMMMM NO!

When I moved I threw away 7000 pounds of "stuff"... too bad scrap wasn't $240 a ton like the old days.

Rocker arms are still available from Harland Sharpe....aluminum ones that is.

The Harland Sharp rockers do not have the correct offset for T/A heads.

Yes Harland Sharp makes the correct offset for the T/A and they are different for the W2
I have had a couple sets in the past

Yes they sure do. And they look just like this......ahh.......when you pull them outta the junk pile.

Somebody ground the dogwater out of them to clear some oversize springs, rather than correct the geometry.

If you're not concerned about Karma, that's swap meet gold....

I sold set of T/A rockers last year here on FABO for around $75....
I thought they were 273s ! They had been sitting in a coffee can for over 20 yrs and I forgot what they were. ...
