You can't tell some young guys anything!

The SM spec means you're good to go. Not the most current gas engine spec, but that 1990 4.0 isn't the most current engine.

Ok so it has more detergent in it woo hoo..I run 10 w 30 in my 4.0l

I had an 86 lebaron gts. 2.2 turbo. I winter drove it. 0w30 diesel motor oil. Nothing better.

Never argue with an idiot, someone walking by might not know which one is the idiot.

Geez. I can't tell you how ANNOYING it is to be told the the filter I'm buying is for a gasoline powered BMW but the oil is for a diesel... My old M3 called out for 15w40. It's a very common weight for diesels so I often (always) ran "diesel" oil. I put ~80k miles on that car and never had an engine issue. And it saw the redline every time I drove it. It had over 220k miles on it when sold to my cousin. Ran just great for him also.

That and he’ll beat you down and win with there experience.
That and the kids will say, “Well, according to the computer.....”

Just getting them to listen is a chore sometimes, let alone them actually following the advice.
Here recently the neighbor asked me something about his car (80's Olds) and he wouldn't even let me finish the sentence without interrupting.
My Wife caught it immediately because when someone asks a question and interrupts as I am answering, I just quit talking and won't continue.
She told the guy "He's trying to tell you something you REALLY need to know, so shut up and listen".:D

It's the same with our computer business.
A customer interrupts while I am trying to answer their question and I don't even finish the sentence, but just let them bla bla bla on and on.

My Dad always told us "You don't learn anything when your mouth is running" and boy oh boy was he right.

I have run into the same problem with young guys, which is why older men are more fun to hang out with. LOL

My eldest daughter, the rebellious one, told me once, when she was a tic under 16, If I didn't do such and such, she would leave.
I said seeya; You can come back any time, but My house/My rules. The other two didn't make no trouble.
She came back a few months later, didn't make any more trouble either.
The lesson was; don't make threats you cannot keep, or or will not enforce.
One of the things I see today's parents do, is to make idle threats. What does that teach your kids?
A long time ago, someone told me; it doesn't matter if I'm right or wrong, I'm the boss; If you don't like it, you can quit. I quit a lotta jobs. Eventually I figured it out, lol.
Maybe your guy will too.
Oh, and about that daughter; she came back to the fold permanently, and will be 39 soon. But she ain't having no babies, lol. There's a better than 50/50 chance the first one out is a rebellious one; it's been that way for a couple of generations; I was an eldest too.

I'm trying to tell a young mechanic about T4 Rotella and to put it in an older truck engine at the shop a 1990 4.0 Jeep six cylinder..Nope that's for diesels only..No way should I be putting that in any gas engine. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01LH7L0D0/?tag=joeychgo-20

Is it good or am I the idiot in this argument?
I run diesel oil in my mopar because uncle Tony told me to, and was so cute explaining it.

It's a no brainer. That kid evidently has never read up on API specs for motor oil. Let him wallow in ignorance.

reminds me of my wife and her sisters , and even her brother. They ask a question and either answer it or ask another before I can open my mouth!!

Oil weight is dictated by the bearing clearances.

There are pleanty of charts on the net if anyone is in the mood to google it up.

I only waste my time once. No need for high priced or light oil. Just get good oil and change it every 3,000 miles. Proved it all my life and over a million hard miles on new and old cars.

If it has a catalytic convertor the high zinc will play hell on it that is why you shouldn't run diesel oil in a gas engine, no convertor you can run it with no real problems but there are better oils that Rotella, Rotella label says meets manufactures spec. Mystik JT8 says exceeds manufactures spec

I have a 96 Neon with 250K on the odometer. Always ran Valvoline 30 or 20w50, still has the original catalytic convertor. Same for my 1998 4.0 Cherokee. Maybe if you have an oil burner?
