Very nice. Welcome to the website!

Why don't you post the specifics of your build? What iron heads? What hyd roller camshaft? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hello from Newport News Demon 408. It`s great to have another local guy on the site. I just helped a friend here from Hampton (Fishman) build and install a 360 stroker motor in his 69 Barracuda. It`s a 408 and it runs very strong! It looks like you made some good numbers with your engine. Hope to see you around and welcome to FABO.

Good to see another local on here, Welcome. I'm real pleased with the 408 we just put in my 69 cuda.

Fishman, have you run your 408 at strip yet?

I had Magnum Machine Inc., Chesapeake, VA. build my 408. The guys at Magnum Machine are great to work with and Kurt, the guy in the picture above, owns the business and races Mopars. Should make my Demon a blast to drive.

That is the kind of info I was looking for!

I will be building my 408 hopefully this time next year. Plan on running Edelbrock heads, but everything else is looking pretty similar to yours, right down to the Kevco pan and TTIs.

What trans and gear are you running?

Brian,

I've got an all aluminum 4-speed that I had Jamie at Passion Performance build for me. I sent him a 833 OD trans and he put his new aluminum tail shaft on it and a close ratio gear set inside of it. The rear is an 8 3/4 with 3:55s. I may build a steeper set of gears for rear after I get the car together and on the road. But, I like the 3:55s because they are great all all around gears for the street.

Sorry but I could not understand what horse-power was said on the video.

Any of you guys a member of the Tidewater Mopar Club?
I used to be when I lived in Newport News. I lived there for
almost 20 years while I was in the Navy. Moved to Illinois
2004. Bought my most recent project 70 Dart out of Poquosen.

Nice build!!I stroked my 340 to a 372.When dynoed it made 452hp. at 5700 and 440ftlbs.at 4300.My car is a 4 speed with an 8 3/4 4.10 s.g strange axels.My best to date was 12.84 at 108mph in the 1/4 mile.Room for improvement,can tell by mph,I should be in the low 12,s.This spring I,ll try to g

I get that question a lot when I tell people where I live. I`m not a member but I`m thinking of joining this spring. The ex-pres John Vuckovich (sp?) used to live right across the street from me but he moved away for a while. He`s back now and again lives just down the street.

I think this motor has more in it but I limited it to the "old school" LD340 intake and iron heads. I wanted it to have the retro look under the hood.

It looks great.

I've got some different parts, different compression, all that, but the numbers are pretty much the same.
I can tell you, mine is a handful so I think you're gonna have alotta fun.

PS, "Children of the grave", nice touch to the video.

I would be happy with mid to high 12 second 1/4 mile times.

No I haven't taken it yet, will get it done this spring. I haven't got car ready yet. Goy some road time on it and it is real strong. The set up is very close to yours. I went w/ a solid lift cam it's a 508/511 comp cam pulls real good. Used some heads from Indy they are cast also. 2800 stall w/355gears. I haven't turned it over 5000 but it was just starting to like it.

Oh yes, Ozzy makes the the appropriate tunes for a 408 powered Demon!

I'm just plan old not impressed with the 408's. I can build a 360 std bore 9.5 to 1 engine with a few trick preformance proven parts and can guarentee #'s very close to those. 508 purple shaft stock smog heads etc etc. How's 436hp and 450lbs. torque? I spend less than 2k on the engine not counting my labor putting it together.

And the 68 full stock bodied dart went 12.40's in 90 degree heat. Stock 904 trans. stock convertor and a 3.91 gear. Car went 1.95's 60 foot time. No traction at all. So if I had put the stall in it and the 4.30's it would go 11's all day. Just always remember, keep it simple and it will scream and stay together.

Thats good stuff, I got about 2200 in mine and thats w/ the heads from Indy. Traction is one problem I am going to have to work on. The couple times I have let it go I had to drive it all the way thru 1st gear. It should run in the low 12's.

Everyone builds stuff for different reason. I bet that 509 cammed 360 doesn't have the idle characteristics of the OP's 408 roller engine. I have 2 360's with rollers; 1 solid, 1 Hyd, that should put out in the 475-540 range. The cams in each are VERY different. I may have 3K in each engine, one with ported e-brocks.

IMHO, this is a nice build for a street driven car that has power brakes, AC and all the other goodies.

408-416 can make nice power, we've had two in the 675-700 range recently and they were screamers. Oh, they weren't cheap... 8)
