I actually went larger than recommended gap on the 2nd ring as well. Someone did some tests and even gapped 2nd ring same as the 1st and still had no oil blow by issues. That was just someone slowly increasing the gap. I just went a wee bit over specs.Couldn't find the article but here's some...

All my lawnmowers get my cleanest gallon of used oil Valvoline Racing oil. lol Only my snowblower gets new stuff. You obviously haven't seen my pristine mowers.

I don't know a hell of a lot but I have a set in my 340. I've heard, lol that the lighter piston makes your motor wind up a little quicker and breaking top shelf is mostly a result of improper ring gap. Go easy on me guys lol

Maybe a valve you can lower pressure on the gauge to get your lower readings. Maybe get highest reading starting cold?

Was yours a column shift? He's worried about the linkage.

Put a T in your oil port, run a pressure gauge and new gauge side by side.Test them both outside the car. Maybe you can add readings on new gauge.
