With high spring pressures and psycho rollers a few. That's why I epoxy magnets in the heads and block as a safety measure. I guess it depends on how hard you push your equipment.
I don't think they are needed. One thing i don't like about full rollers is if you ever break a rocker arm the needles go everywhere. On street motors I run 273 adjustable rockers and have run them to low 12s in the quarter and never hurt one.
Build a car that reflects your personality, who you are. A /6 Duster is a perfect starting point for a hot street car. Anything you do to it will make it worth more and more. Do what work you can yourself to keep the costs down and learn as you go. Enjoy the hobby and don't get caught up in the...
I built a similar combo a while back. 416, W2s, similar cam, 13 to 1 compression, single Dominator, 904, Cal Tracs, Duster body. 3300lbs. Made 660 hp, 580 ftlbs. Ran 9.72 @135.
We built that hood. I wasn't too thrilled about the idea but but the closer it got to being done the more I liked it. We followed the body lines in the hood with the scoop. Widened and lengthened it and changed the shape of it. It took the Chevy look out of the equation(I think). I hate to say...
It was a little flat. Jetting was spot on after reading the plugs. If it wasn't, it would melt running that long. I used to pull timing out in high gear with a timing computer while drag racing and would gain a little bit of mph. On that run in the video i had 6 degrees pulled out for the whole...
Good shocks, super stock springs, lowered the car as much as the tires would allow and a drag race front end alignment with as much caster as I could get.
If you can find the earlier pedal assembly the 6 inch dimension is already there, plus the clutch pedal shaft rides in needle bearings instead of nylon as an added bonus.. Herb McCandless never modified the z bar back in the day, said it made the clutch a bear to push, lengthened the clutch rod...
With super stock springs, an adjustable pinion snubber, and QA1 shocks set real stiff there wasn't much squat. QA1's are worth their weight in gold both here and on the drag strip.
